I'm a kind of fan that can find enjoyment in just about anything I watch. I love collecting anime paraphernalia and have gone as far as getting a tattoo of my favorite anime character. I would cosplay if I had the money to buy a costume, or if I had the skill to make my own. I also am a complete maniac for J-rpgs and such, so much so that 95% of my game collection is J-rpgs. I would have more figurines and posters and wallscrolls, if I had the money and space to put all of it.

Thanks for the wonderful responses so far!

Aside from being an anime fan, I used to be really into Morning Musume!

http://www.crunchyroll.com/morning-musume

I'm not entirely sure how I got into it, but I seem to recall watching a video of the girls watching the super creepy movie of the day "The Ring"! Those variety shows in Japan always like to do something to their guests and this was no different! They were all so scared already watching the movie and the hosts had to plant Sadako there to scare them.

I laughed and laughed and laughed and then it just snowballed from there! Watching all these videos of Morning Musume, readings news about them--I couldn't help it! It was just so fascinating to see different kinds of personalities between the many generations of girls that were a part of the group. I had a lot of the music, I would listen to it and bop around my place with the bubblegum pop songs playing so loudly despite the fact that I didn't and still don't know what the lyrics meant! For all I know, I could have been summoning the Elder Gods and it wouldn't have mattered to me! But despite this, I never collected any trinkets like those photobooks or collectable cards they had. I never went to any of the conventions they showed up at either!

I suppose I've just never felt the need to populate my home with objects from a singular fandom. Little things here and there just to give some insight into the interests I have because it's always fun to have conversation starters around!

Well, I'm a huge a manga fan and I always want to read a hard copy of a series. If I happen to love a series, I'll buy manga volumes to support the author that I respect.

I'm also a huge Harry Potter fan. (Oh dear god, sorry everyone.) When I was younger, I would invest my time re-reading every book before J.K Rowling released another book. I was lucky enough to receive the seventh book on my birthday (a couple of weeks after that book was released) Oh man. You don't know how much joy Harry Potter gave me. I wish I had the time to re-read all of the books again.

Edited by ni: Sorry! Removed that last bit at the top!

Most of my friends that dont know I watch Anime, would never guess. Im pretty much a Blue collared red neck. I offroad, I'm a firefighter, bonfires. All that.

But I'm a huge anime fan, I pretty much find enjoyment in almost all the shows I watch. But I'm not to the extent that I have an overflowing closet of perfectly organized DVD box sets. I have certain series that I really, really like on DVD, and for some of the same shows Ill get some little bits and things like keychains and die-cut decals for my trucks. And I'm also big into J-Pop, my friends all get confused when they try to go through my Ipod.

I get what you mean about my friends not knowing that I'm into anime or j-pop. Outwardly, I don't embody anything remotely otakuish even though I have watched a great deal of anime (at least it's a lot in my opinion, lol). I don't quite show off my interest like that. Not to say that it's wrong that others do that, but it's just out of my comfort zone to go to big conventions with all those people. Props to those who attend them and get all into it.

I'm sort of a video game "fan" I guess, but again, I don't show it off. Just subtle things like a companion cube metal cut keychain from Portal 2 or Appa from Avatar: The Last Air Bender. I'm even a fan of Android and have those little figurines too, heh.

I used to be pretty hardcore, even importing those crazy $300 boxsets directly from Japan when I was younger (the currency exchange from yen to Canadian dollars was quite good back then). Thanks to CR, it saved me from being broke forever. In my older age, I'm a lot more selective about what I actually buy; when I do, it's digital when it's available and Blu-ray only as a last resort. I still have a huge manga, figure, and JPop collection kept safe in my basement, but I'm slowly selling most of it off.

I don't openly advertise this hobby in public unless I run into fellow otaku. Even then, I'm still pretty low key and I have plenty of other non-Japanese related hobbies.

I would consider myself on the level of Otaku mainly because all i really do for hobbies would be watch Anime, read manga, play video games and listen to music most of which is Japanese. When it comes to Anime it is of the highest importance that i watch almost anything and everything, I would love to go to an/all Anime expos if i had money to do so also would love to give cosplay a go at least once because it sounds pretty fun.
Overall I am a "If" fan as in "If" i had the money to buy every Blu-ray, CD, Manga, figure and Video game I could or "If" i had the money i would go to every Anime/Game convention i could. Man I need to start getting money.
If i had all of that then my life would be amazing haha.

Also I never used to say to people that i was interested in these kinds of things but when I got halfway through highschool I stopped caring what people thought and i found others with the same interests.

I used to only be into hardcore male oriented shonen anime with lots of action, but as time went on i slowly started shifitng towards romance animes, so now i only watch romantic slice of lifes.
I'm also a die hard san francisco giants fan, I watch almost every game and read every article during the off season.
I also have a little obsession with j-rpgs owning about 150+ and am obsessed with superman having tons of movies (live action and animated) action figures and a little shrine hidden in my closet.

When I find something that I really like, I always get REALLY into it. Whether is anime, comics, art, a television show, whatever.

For instance, I just started Formula 1 racing this year. To say the least, I'm kind obsessed. After watching my first race, I went out and read on rules, the cars, tires, drivers, teams, so on and so forth. I got my claws on everything I could so I can better understand this new interest of mine- and generally, the more I understand, the more I'm totally into it.

my fandom is generally "go big, or go home."

I saw this question in the Chat With the Crunchyroll Community Staff thread and I thought this was an interesting subject!

Given that this is convention season for the world of anime, we get to see all sorts of fans of this genre express their love for it! From cosplaying to memorabilia, everyone comes out and experiences it all in their own way in which they enjoy! It's very fun to watch!

But! It makes me wonder about the kind of fan people consider themselves! Everyone can be into something in their own way, not necessarily being expressive with things like cosplaying their favorite character. And this isn't limited to just anime, but for other things as well like music, comic books, and anything else that someone could be a fan of!!!

So, for instance, if you are into anime (as everyone on Crunchyroll probably is! :D) are you into cosplaying? Do you collect figurines and have a million of them in your room? What about music like J-Pop or K-Pop? Do you know all the chants and collect all the CDs and posters? Remember you don't have to do all these things just to be considered a fan!

Please share with everyone!

Hmm I own over 100 anime dvds. Mostly because of the random boxes crunchyroll sells lol
here are some of them.

Actually, there's a book here in Downtown Miami Library depicting how Japanese male fans take it to the extreme. Where not only they form a gang based on the particular girl they liked in the group, they clad themselves with pictures of this girl like a suit of armor.
PSA is mostly discreet in Japan, but deep inside, sexual innuendos are thru the roof.

And, oh yes, I watched some of the funny videos you mentioned about Morning Musume. Especially when they had to compete in a high school setting and the music talk show UTABAN.

Oh yea. You're the queen of CR, right? How come CR doesn't have any variety shows?
I want to watch Gaki no Tsukai. Running man. 1N2D.

I think I'm more of a casual fan of anime for now. I can get obsessive when I find a good series though. I remember seeing the first 2 episodes of ef - A Tale of Memories on CR, and immediately bought it on Amazon at like 3AM and then rewatched the first 2 episodes of it in english, and watched that in like 4 days I think. I had bought the second season immediately too, because I didn't want a delay in between. I think I marathoned the last 5 episodes of Melodies, which is way out of the norm. I typically only watch a max of 2 episodes a day.

I did something similar with Clannad, but since I couldn't find After Story for a good price at the time I watched that off Netflix. I was glued to that one though, I couldn't watch any other anime until I finished Clannad/After Story.

I tend to be a completionist when it comes to videogames. I'm always playing the RPGs 3+ times through to get everything. Even when I'm playing Call of Duty I hate losing lol and probably take it more serious than I should lol.

I used to be pretty obsessive with the Dave Matthews Band like back when file sharing sites like Limewire were still around. Once I started listening to their live stuff, I went on a pretty dedicated search to get all the early and live stuff I could find. I never show anyone my ipod because it's dominated by majority trance, jpop, and anime music (both of which aren't popular in the US). So I guess there's a few genres I can get pretty obsessive about.

I'm also starting to get into the figures. I've got my first ones coming to me later this month.

This is what happens when you have money to spend I guess lol.

Wow! That is quite an impressive collection of DVDs you have there! And you got them mostly from here? That's awesome!

Correction! I'm the Princess of Community Contests! SailorBee is the true Princess of CR~!

Unfortunately, I can't say much about getting variety shows. Maybe one day that would be possible! It has to go both ways--the people responsible for making the variety shows being interested in streaming their content and CR being able to acquire a license/agreement to show them. But don't take my word for it!
