Episode 9
Akadama-sensei is the one who has to choose the next Nise-emon.At first he doesn't want to go,but is convinced by Yasaburou.

Yasaburou meets Kaisei in the bath house,and she warnings him that the Ebisugawa family are going to try to do something to Yaichirou.

Nise-emon election next episode,based on the title I'm guessing Souun made some kind of deal with the Friday Fellows to get Souichirou in a hot pot and is going to try to do the same to Yaichirou.To guarantee he becomes the Nise-emon.

You have two things they made sure people knew by the end of the episode. Humans haven't found a victim yet for the end of year hot pot and Ebisugawa are planning something extra douchey. Math on this says someone is going to have a bad end in the hot pot. It will be interesting to see where this goes because it could play out in many ways.

I like how they are using real spots in Kyoto...

The Belly Button Stone (へそ石) of the central stone:

English version has less pictures, including not showing the six sided Belly Button Stone like the six sided temple Rokkaku-do:

Keisei didn't have any face time in this series until the newest episode, but I don't remember for all the anime I've watched that a character has as much presence in an anime just by invoking her name. Sure, she's only has three non appearances in 1- in the shadows under a bridge, 2 - transformed into a chest of drawers, and 3 - As a ladder Keisei seems to get herself involved in Yasaburo when she can and plays the role of a reluctant spy on her own family for the greater good of Tanooki society. Whether that's her goal or not isn't known, she keeps her reasoning to herself and the last few episodes will tell us why she acts the way she does. Keisei still seems to love her family, but whatever they're doing doesn't sit well with her.

The ominous storm clouds are starting to roll in.

Glad to finally "see" Kaisei, but her family's shady dealings are going to be bad news for someone.

I think to myself with this show, "she's cute but she's really a raccoon dog!" LOL

But she chose her present form well, very cute indeed.

Ominous clouds... leading to a hot pot near you...

Which makes the tsundere actions of this episode all the more strange/surreal. They're both tanuki who are shape-shifted to human form, i.e. "wearing" full-body disguises like halloween costumes... So why would either one of them be excited or embarrassed about seeing the other in human form, whether or not they are in a bath? Even if they lost control and slipped back to their natural shape, it's not like that form would be clothed either, which is how they would see each other in the wild...

While it is funny to consider them being bashful about their naked made-up human forms I think it says something about the show. They are ladders and streetcars once in a while; when they want to shut out the world they are a frog in a well; but what the shape-shifting raccoon dogs want most to be is humans it seems, the very creatures who want to eat them in the Friday Club. This story is so full of irony, actual irony, not coincidence with which it is often confused.

This has all the hallmarks of a tragedy.

A theory...

I like that theory, and would find it satisfying to see it play out that way.

Thanks. I hope as part of this, we'll find out about the incident where Akadama-sensei lost his ability to fly.

I... admit I am not a fan.

To me this is a show that desperately needs a happy ending :p

although my personal assumption is it's going to trend that way and then turn around at the last moment.

~~~
On the note about Benten taking part in the capture, I'm thinking that's also why she was hanging out in the room with the dad, even sleeping. If she weren't there he'd be able to escape. If that's right, it'd be interesting to see how that was discovered or arranged.\
Finally, it is interesting they've done a really good job setting up the sense of impending tragedy. Ir'a like Everybody watching knows it's coming, just not quite how yet ...
To be honest, I want a happy ending too. I just think we aren't going to get one.
One other note: The ED is "Qué será, será". That's Italian and can be loosely translated as "whatever will be, will be". Some might be familiar with the Doris Day song from the '50s. Anyway, just like the current trendy expression, yolo, there's a double-edge aspect to the expression. Who knows what the future will bring?
