You can start off with an easy cosplay. From your profile picture I find you will be able to do Cid from FF7 pretty well

Be you who you want to be! If you want to cosplay as a character you love that badly, it'll turn out perfect, trust me!

But for your first cosplay, go with something easy! And I agree with Imperfect Ange1!

I know this feeling. I have watched people cosplay forever, and am finally going to do one myself. My 3 choices for my first are Yajirobe from Dragon Ball/Z, Android 19 also DBZ or Kohta Hirano from High School of the Dead. Just not to sure where to get the needed stuff, or how to make it all. Any tips for a newbie?

Android 19 looks like it'd be the hardest to me. Yajirobe might not be too difficult for a first cosplay, but Kohta would probably be the easiest - almost everything he needs can be grabbed from a secondhand store, even, so it'd be pretty cheap. Making one of his modified weapons would probably really make the cosplay hit home, like

A toy gun, some thin wood that you can pick up from a craft store like Michael's or JoAnn's (or some cardboard if you've got it handy), a wooden pencil, and some masking or packing tape would probably set you up quite well.

If you've got a sewing machine, or know someone who does, making Yajirobe's robe would be nice and simple, too, then he just needs some wrist bands (workout section at a local store), the belt (easy to sew), and a sword (going with a Nerf toy would be easiest to get through con security).

Does any of that seem helpful?

Good luck!

I have always dreamed of cosplaying for a long time... The problem is I don't know who I could be. I love anime and I've watched thousands of shows, but I never can picture my self play any of those characters.... Any ideas?

I am on the same boat with you too of wanting to cosplay too. Best bet will be, find the one anime that you really love to do and start from there and work your way up. As well, go to different conventions with friends and cosplay together; that way you get to meet awesome people, take pictures with them, ask them how they create their costumes and learn from them to get better. You can also take lessons like of how to make your own costumes like sewing and how to use a sewing machine, if you don't want to buy your costumes off on Ebay, Esty, Amazon, etc unless you have the money for it. You can also go anime database and see what kind of character you wanted to do, here is the link for it: http://www.animecharactersdatabase.com/#search. As well, cosplaying is about fun and learning your mistakes and improve. I too slowly trying to do cosplaying and learning new skills but since time isn't in my hands, but in the later months once I am not busy, then I will start!!

Good luck!!
