Gearbox and miscellaneous

The McLaren F1 has a transverse 6-speed manual gearbox with an AP carbon triple-plate clutch contained in an aluminium housing, both the standard edition and the 'Mclaren F1 LM' has the following gear ratios: 3.23:1, 2.19:1, 1.71:1, 1.39:1, 1.16:1, 0.93:1, with a final drive of 2.37:1.

The LSD (Limited Slip Differential) has a 40% lock.

The McLaren F1 has no flywheel in order to decrease inertia and increase responsiveness of the system, resulting in faster gear changes and better throttle feedback.

We're talking about F1 Racing not the McLaren F1...

The majority of modern Formula One cars use seven-speed semi-automatic gearboxes.

Finally, someone else that understands where I am coming from. He goes on talking about gear ratios when were talking about F1 cars Image Im glad he knows how to copy and paste from google too Image He owned himself so many times in this thread it isnt even funny anymore Image Image Image Image

oh and hey I drive a civic too so... lay off the civic jokes a little will ya Image the only thing different with mine is in my avatar, suspension mods, and my bixenons (e46 3 series retros) Image

i say manual.
1) because it's fun to drive
2) better mileage
3) insurance is cheaper for some reason on manual
4) faster cause u get to change shift times
and 5) impresses ppl =P

but automatic because it's easy and convenient great for beginners

and then there's also sports shift. where it's a mix of auto n manual. and then the ones with the paddles (like ferrari)

Stick Shift i mean Manual is way better...
whats the point of having a sport car if its an automatic... note: all sport, super car racing are manual..
if its just for in town, slow driving, towing, big trucks,SUV, automatic well be better...

Automatic drivers are really stupid...
story:
One day i tried to sell my 89 FC (RX7) this stupid guy said "I'll buy your car, and what is that third pedal for?"
How Lame Can You Get!
And i didn't sold my car to him because he didn't know the third pedal was for.
Just in case if you ask what i drive now its still RX7 FD, garage most of the time.

in a racing car, or a modified car, i prefer manual. u can control its velocity n power in having a manual shift.

like my folks say, automatics are for old people. (i would like to say autos are for girls, too, but i'm not a chauvinist and by the way, there are females who prefer manual).

automatic cars for me are too boring. its like driving a bumper car around the metro. if you really know how to drive, then manual is the way to go.

my granddad also says that student drivers need to get accustomed to driving manuals first before they go automatic since it makes students more alert. which is true, since i'm kinda twitchy when i drive. lol

Not many people knows the operation of a clutch...
Can you explain the operation of a torque converter?
