manual, cause then no one in my family can drive my car Mwuahahahha... i hate it when i have to go pick up people, damn people only wanted me to drive so i can become their slave =P heh but ateast i have freedom woot woot!!!

also manual is quite easy once you get use to it and if it's your car =), also i find it easier to not fall asleep while im driving if i drive stick, automatic it's annoying....when i get into my sisters car i start to snooze off lol (dont get on the same road as me or we'll both crash and burn!!!!) j/k im really not that bad, i mean it =)

But, you cannot deny that automatics are heavier. More weight to pull around means less fuel efficency, even if it's a tiny bit, it's still there.....

Yeah, you can't deny the weight difference, true. That would just mean to find some way to make a cleaner burn to compensate for the increased in weight. And thats exactly what the industry is doing. Like I stated in my previous post, the research and development going into the concept of the automatic transmission, its only going to be a few years before auto tranny complete phases out manual.
Rumors around the industry is that, aside from the sportier cars that strive for perfect weight ratio, that soon your average run of the mill car, is going to have to be special ordered as a manual transmission/transaxle.
Cause the concept have been tried and tried to death and that...manual transmission, thats all that remains...
An input shaft that turns with engine speed, connected to the output shaft by a string of gears...and the size and diameter of each gear determine gear ratio...
Whereas, the introduction of an alternating belt timing CVT transmission, indicates all the focus going into improving the automatic transmission to suit driver need. And with CVT, its gonna cut the lost of power through the transmission, and regardless of how you look at it...most power is lost through the transmission.

Dam, I forgot about the CVT, lol.
Well, I don't trust a belt controlling my engine RPMs. In addition, the whine of a CVT is boring.

I wanna control the car, not hydraulic pressure or a CVT.....

Yeah, the stages of CVT are probably right now too new.
I don't know. I'm a fan of manual transmission too...
But reality is, its not really gonna last...
Too bad though...

Only time you ever want manual, is for racing and I hope your not some prick who likes to do it in open traffic. Especially when you have children to tend to in the car, automatic is much more convenient. Only reason I could see myself driving a manual not for racing is because I brought an affordable car that was most likely manual even though I probably wouldn't openly accept the option.

i heard from a friend driving a manual reduces engine wear. yet driving a manual can lead to stalling on the road if you release the clutch too fast on older models.

Wow 2 people said REAL drivers drive manuals...

So WRC/F1/JGTC drivers are not REAL drivers?

I think a 3rd option should be thrown in... Semi-Autos...

I love the BMW SMG system, best of both worlds.

I have a manual licence (means I am allowed to drive both kinds), but I haven't driven a manual since I was 23 and have probably forgotten how. I have nightmares about rolling backwards on hills (as you can do quite easily in a manual). Automatics are much easier. My son only has an automatic licence, and he and most of his friends are of the opinion that manual cars will soon be obsolete.

My mother still drives a manual, and says she would not be able to drive an automatic, despite my pointing out how it is so much easier.

i think automatic would be for people who just want a car to get around and stuff like to work and back... while manual is for people who really want to enjoy the car!
