Man, I just really appreciate how much subtext there is in this show. I'm not thinking about it enough to really "get" it, but it's obvious to me that it's much deeper than surface level.

Also, important revelation about CROWDS. Their existence was clearly linked to Katze in this episode when Rui summoned his CROWDS and Katze made it disappear without attacking.

Glad Joe didn't die.

Sensed OD's death flag when he said goodbye to Utsutsu?And cause the episode partially focused on him?

The Gatchaman reveal themselves to the public by visiting a preschool.And spent most of their time gaining publicity.Hajime eventually calls out Load for help defeating Katze.

Katze stole X and Galax from Rui.And created the Neo-Hundreds and left them in Umeda's care.

First possible death caused by Galax too.Texting and walking,didn't noticed stairs and died(wouldn't be the first time this happened XD).

Miyano's voice was strangely hot when he was talking to X in Rui's body

I was thinking this before the ep came, but sugune is SOOOO falling for Hajime... Not that I can blame him much ><

~~~
Also! I ended up feeling weirdly bad for X. Even as an unthinking machine, that kind of betrayal (so to speak) gives me the willies.
I feel the term, "death-flag" is being played out way too hard right now. we have all known OD will probably die if he goes Bird status. in the end, he probably won't die because we have Hajime, but we'll see.
those little kids are pretty damn perceptive, eh? a lot of hidden context in this show. I knew there was a reason why I got ultra-mega-hooked from the first episode.
OD is awesome! like someone said, "never change!" it's nice to see the team opening up and finally actually listening to what Hajime has been saying to them...looks like Joe is the last one to be completely influenced but he was taken back for a moment by how responsive the team became to going public. how amazing is it that this anime breaks a few cliche's but the most important one being: let's keep our hero-status secret!
AND the Utsu-tsu thing: if you have ears to listen w/you herd that they used the same play on words to describe being gloomy. so she is dreamy as in gloomy...but not anymore thanks to(who I think is) their new leader, Hajime!
Berg-Katze killed Pai-Pai's dear friend and destroyed OD-sama's home planet. I would love to know the back story on this. I think it's that Pai-Pai and his dear friend came to OD's planet to protect it. there they met OD and Berg-Katze...when I first saw Berg-Katze I immediately posted that I thought they were from the same planet, given their character and the way they are drawn. then, someone said, "no." and I thought about it... after seeing Episode Eight, I am now wondering if maybe Berg-Katze IS related to OD but possibly a son or nephew?
-edit-
OH!
who else thinks Rui is going to join the Gatchaman and possibly Go Bird!?
-edit-
still. this was extremely entertaining and made my time fly by. "when you're having fun, you're unstoppable." I guess when you really enjoy something and you're completely into it, that thing becomes unstoppable, like the way I feel about this show. sorry I don't feel sorry for you people who thought this was a mediocre episode or was, "pretty boring."
New random theory: They're going all Empire strikes back on it, and OD was a parent figure to Katze, and OD was kind of his friend.
I'm not sure I can go all the way on it, but it's a possibility!
IKR!? that's what I'm thinking! OD does look pretty matured and the hint he gave at the school w/the kids on his lap about Berg-Katze being a child himself AND here is the kicker! how that conversation took place earlier in the episode about humans existing in their adolescent stage longer than any other animal in the world...
maybe! just maybe... it is a possibility.
I'm pretty sure OD will gravely declare it is his destiny to die taking down his mortal enemy, before being cheerfully berated by Hajime about wanting to make Utsutsu cry.
Utsutsu has grown a lot, so did Asane actually. That little blonde guy has been thinking a lot lately.
That show is interesting in how people react to it. It leaves a lot of people cold, but those who are into it REALLY are into it. It's honestly my favourite show of the year, and might even end up in my top five.
Interesting note from OD there. Despite coming from a destroyed world OD says he is half-human.
We heard earlier that the Crowds were human consciousness given form. and now it looks like the ones Katze destroyed have caused people to drop into comas. Yet the Crowds are still accessible. That would suggest the system Katze gave Rui has actually allowed him to enslave those people's consciousness turning them into minions.
Will that spread to the other Galex users, allowing the Neo-Hundred to force all the other Galex users to become Crowds?
People dropping into Comas all over the place, their consciousness enslaved to anger filled bitter men and women like Umeda-san
Interesting theory. I guess we'll see.
Hajime was very shrewd in having the public unveiling of Gatchaman at a preschool. They can show they are powerful and not dangerous to the public. Plus, she got to use the press to communicate to Rui.
She also threw a popsicle stick into a dart board!
Initially the implication read to me as being a lot worse than just 'I'll die' for OD. I'd have to go back to see, but it was more along the lines of 'all will be lost', I remember thinking at first that he'd destroy the world himself if he transformed.
...what if he'd go insane like Katze?
I don't think he would, but there's still a real possibility that Berg-Katze's plan involves taunting OD to use his power. That would explain the big red blaze. OD's got to wonder if saving the galaxy from Berg-Katze's rampage is worth sacrificing Earth. OD looked pretty close to go Kamikaze after all, before Hajime came running around and doing scissor hands magical girl routines.
Two interesting things about Hajime this episode: it's the first time we see her on the warpath, she even flat out states negociation isn't going to work this time.
The second is how agressively opportunistic she can be, that PR campaing is a thing of cobbled together beauty. All the resources she uses this episode are things we already know she has access to, the fire department gave her access to the location, and provided security for the event. It gives her a mean to counter Katze's influence over society by giving her a media presence, it gives the team something to do instead of waiting for certain doom, it puts the Gatchaman in contact with the people they protect (do you like this planet?).
Heck it even allows Hajime to crowdsource the riddle and try to contact Rui! Though those last two is probably just taking advantage of the TV cameras already being there.
She's scraping every single advantage she got to regain momentum and change the dynamic of the fight with that crazy mimic with those really creepy eyes. Is it going to be enough? Maybe not, but Hajime is determined to go down swinging as hard as she can.
I hope Firebird stops being emo and does something heroic. He's kind of a bad-ass so I'm hoping his butt whipping by Katze doesn't keep him in the dumps for the rest of the entire show.
Poor Joe, being stuck in the wrong show.
Anywhere else he'd be the star, at worst he'd be back after a quick training montage. It's just that this show take a bit more realistic view of the whole dark, brooding loner archetype.
Denying your emotional pains and just powering alone through sheer willpower is great... until it doesn't work at all. That's actually a real problem in the real world: one of the biggest reason suicide rates are so high among men is that they just don't ask for help.
Wonder how Joe will claw his way back out of that hole. Utsutsu is probably the only one who can reach out to him.
