I kinda feel bad about singling this one thing out, but I actually do agree with Hajime. It can work like that. We are all (myself included) so glued to our computers and internet that we go through withdrawals without it. I think it is really beautiful how she can make such a clear division in her life between the internet and her real life. GALAX, in many ways, blurs those lines, but she some how has struck a marvelous balance. And really, for someone with as much self confidence as Hajime, just turning it off is a valid option. Just because that's her chosen method doesn't mean it doesn't sting her a bit. But her outlook seems to be, "If it's mean stuff from people I shouldn't care about, there's no reason to keeping seeing it."

I understand the point, but it's a little different when they're digging up RL photos (although cute ones!) and posting RL addresses (although only Katze does that). Usually she'd be right, but in this case it's really a thing for the police ><

I actually love the way Hajime's character is delivered. I don't think she was ever meant to be a super well-rounded character. She's sort of a symbol, like the essence of positivity (eww, what a disgustingly trite way to put that-but I can't come up with anything else at the moment). She is larger than life, more positive than anyone ever could really be (sort of like Minori from Toradora!, except minus the personal issues Minori has). I mean, Gatchaman Crowds is a superhero anime, even if it is deconstructing a lot of cliches and archetypes. And superheros are by definition more than simple humans. So, as a symbolic character, I really like the way they've done the delivery of her character. (But I can TOTALLY understand why she rubs some people the wrong way.) I just don't think she is necessarily meant to be realistic.

That's definitely a point, she definitely has a twist on the superhero vibe. Not directly of course, but that's part of the beauty of the show. She's superhuman in a way that can actually make things better for the people around her.

And for that I'm totally okay with Hajime's shallowness. I mean yearh she hasn't developed much as a character, but that's not her role. Like the discussion many many pages back, she's almost a christ-figure (although I suspect without the sacrificing your life part, although she'd willingly do it). The other characters have developed and grown enough (even Pai Pai) to make up for any lack ><

Also, I iddn't say it before, but I loved the contrast between Utsuutsu's ... minimal normal outfit and her utterly nutso-baroque Gatchaman outfit. It's a very nice touch. Also she yells!

Edit: Also, also, nice touch, the kids LOVED Paipai pooping out the crowds but the teacher looks more than a little horrified ><

and also also also, shows all of a sudden getting a lot of viewers which I love... both in the episode comments, and it's moved up a lot in the 'popular shows list' (if I'm reading that list right) Yay!

Gonna risk a double (don't hurt me mods!) because I have a big project for us all:

I wanna list all the references to the old gatchaman show that we've seen so far.

MY LIST:
1) Katze Berg and X
2) Rui always wears a Galactor bat symbol pin
3) The Galactor knights and crowds people all wear the helmet that the old galactor henchmen used to wear
4) Go Bird!
5) Gatcha!
6) Jo being the dark/brooding one.

Anybody else got any?

I noticed that when listening carefully to the spoken lines, that what is subtitled as GALAX-er (referring to the GALAX users) actually sounds a lot like Galactor.

So, was I the only one who didn't like this episode compared to the last few?

I just thought it was a bit too busy perhaps, or that some of the events were a bit contrived. The Prime Minister definitely pissed me off, but not because he was a disillusioned coward like he was supposed to be, but I just thought all of his lines could have been better.

Yeah it seemed rushed, like the writers were so concerned with fitting everything in to the episode that none of it seemed to happen with any sense of buildup or accomplishment. But maybe if I had watched the last episode right before this one it all would have seemed better >_>

Is it just me?

Oh, yeah, once it goes to photos and addresses, I agree, that's something else. I was just thinking back to when Hajime is talking to Utsutsu in the elevator. At the point, I think it was just people saying mean things, and Hajime was talking about how she could just turn all of that off by turning off her phone.

GAATTCCHAAA MAAAAAAN!!!

But no seriously. This show is delightfully good, I just felt the last episode was a bit rushed. Just a bit .. But besides that-- Amazing show so far. Completely under-rated but hell even I overlooked it. . Glad I stopped doing that and said 'let me just see if it's worth watching'. . Found out it totally was.

And I find it funny htis is like a revamp of the old Gatchaman-- I never seen the oldschool one so im curious if it was as good as this in terms of plot and content.

The old one was pretty much entirely different.

It's not really a surprise, I guess, everythings changed a lot since the early '70s, especially anime.

The old show was extremely episodic in a 'giant robot of the week' kind of way. It did have some overarching plots and built up over time, but there was never really much in the way of organization.

I have the whole thing (JP version) on DVD, and it's mad fun... but you've really gotta be into that retro look and feel, or it's gonna leave you cold.

Haven't watched the predecessor so I have no richness or context for comparison yet what I have seen of this series (marathoned all episodes up to current on CR) I'm really impressed with the series as is. I dearly adore the OST (especially track 7) and have already ordered a copy direct from Japan. If this anime comes out for public consumption in 2014 I will sure as hell buy it.

The comment iblessall (above) made re Hajime just turning off the phone to counteract perceived public criticism and stay positive is a social technique / mechanism taught in counseling classes. It really helps if you perceive commentaries, twitter, other social media as just "noise" rather than life-altering dogma. You would be amazed how far you could overcome negativity / depression cast upon thyself from within by just adapting part of your belief system to this psychological tool of perception.

I don't want to belabor the point, but again...

While what you're saying is true and is a positive way to think about social media, What Katze was using Galax for, both with Hajime and Rui and later with whatsisname was pretty much dangerous criminal harassment. You can't 'turn off' people knowing a bunch of your personal info, especially in the context of the show where it reflects real physical danger.

Had the day off work, so I saw the new ep early for once :D

...

daaaaaamn.

...

The first half makes me nervous though, that's usually the kind of thing you see just before or after somebody heroicly dies.

It did seem like a death flag but we'll see.

Didn't appreciate that half the episode was essentially a recap, but they disguised it by adding some, at the least, interesting narrative.

Episode 11

Damn, only one more episode till the finale now.

The first half felt like a recap but the second half was down to business. Poor Rui though, I feel sorry for him the most. I hope that deal with that Berg-Katze once and for all as he seems to bring trouble wherever the hell he goes.

Yeah, poor Rui. No matter what he does it bows up in his face.

Then again it pretty much blew up in everyone's face this time. Hajime basically did Berg-Katze's job for him. For a girl who's supposedly never wrong she sure got thoroughly screwed over big time.
