I think it's sad that such a section exists but also a good thing. I wonder who will deem what threads worthy of this section though?

We've been fighting for this section for ages... and since the development of the groups, the majority of the intelligent users went to the groups... such as the intelligent discussions group or the Senior citizens of CR group.
I'm glad this section is here, because then if people are actually wanting to argue or discuss about something it's not that same 150 or so views that we've gotten kinda bored with in the intelligent discussions group. Perhaps that 13 year old that usually spams with "dunno" will be able to actually contribute something. Perhaps this section will get people's brains moving from the sluggish momentum in the chats to actual brain function!

*grins*

Or it'll get spammed anyway, but there will hopefully be less of it.

After the many posts that say that it's boredom, I've come to think differently. Well, personally, I admit I do come to these forums when I'm bored, but I still (I think) contribute some points and an opinion towards the topic, not to mention I make an attempt to post coherently. Then again, I fail to see how posting 1-line thought-less "dunnos" etc can alleviate someones boredom. Bit of a waste of ability actually.

well i guess it's like a "speak easy" topic

I'm not quite sure what on Earth mariia is talking about, and this was what I partly aimed at. The lack of ability to just express their opinions/thoughts CLEARLY, let alone BACK it up with some kind of reasoning.
Hell, aside from the utterly moronic posts as seen in wolzens, there are some/quite a few posters out there who seem to TRY to express their opinions, but just fail, and they basically get labeled as spam.

Anyway, maybe I'm the only one who doesn't get what mariia's saying, but it looked like a good example so I used it, I don't have anything against you or anything (just in case).

And before I wrap up my opinion, I'd just like to say that age does not in any way play a particular role in the number of trash that is circulated/discussed around here. It's maturity that plays that role and it just happened that people mature at different ages and most if not all or the average of matured people that are considered or can be called mature are 18+. As they say, with experience comes wisdom and with wisdom comes maturity because intelligence can be learned anytime if you are willing to.

I see what your saying, and I agree. But on the other hand, if theres a 21 year old being told to grow up (by a 16-17 year old) because he/she started a thread titled as "How gay is crunchyroll", it's hard not to think somethings wrong with him/her. I guess theres a bit of a benchmark of maturity in society now. It would be nice if there was something to encourage these people to leave those "trash posts" and start posting coherently, as well as using some kind of thought.

I think most people are indeed capable of coherent thought. It's just, when they're exploiting the online medium of crunchyroll to indulge their decidedly less intellectual entertainment needs, they're not going to be in the best frame of mind for intelligent discussion. To expect someone to turn around from a four hour Naruto marathon and give their opinion on the state of political affairs in the Middle East following the assassination of Benazir Bhutto is a little much, don't you think?

First off, I agree with the rest of your post, I see what you're getting at. But as you say, they're capable of coherent thought, but they fail to post anything close to a coherent thought. I doubt theres any thread similar to your example, but this forum isn't asking for any opinions which would be beyond their experience.
On a smaller step, I don't think its not much of a demand for people to AT LEAST express their thoughts clearly so that others can understand. True, there are many people from other countries where English isn't the main language, so some thought should be given to them. But as with a previous example I mentioned, if the 21 year old only explained what, and then why, she thinks CrunchyRoll is "gay" (what a great word....), she could have had some proper discussion along with bringing in a point that could have benefited everyone who read it.
Hell, this thread is similar to "how gay is CRoll" to an extent.

ive checked three hours ago and i was really happy that there are actually intelligent discusions here..
i agree with you that it is needed.. i have been really upset of those spams and if they cant defend their ideas they just go on talking like idiots and telling everyone against them to fuck off... im really trying to be nice to them and talk to them logically but one time i was really insulted when a member called me names (i wont be pointing fingers here)...lol..maybe im not used to it since if someone talks properly in our country we also respect that persons view...

but now, i logged in back again there are still one sentence answers to the forums and i really thot this was an extended forum...
wow... im really being a cry baby now..lol...
hey i cant help it... im dissapointed still...

Narutards. In my perspective, they're a group of mindless little brats who are impossible to deal with. You can't be rational with them, and they just troll around the forum.

Ahaha I know what you mean. Actually, there are MANY people who are like that, plain irrational and at times, offensive. Probably better known as ignorant. I just had the experience of being around huge crowds of little kids who think they are cool and because of that, they own the world. Talking sense into them just doesn't work. Shame that there are a fair few adults many years older than me/you/us who are kinda the same (thinking about that, it is indeed QUITE a shame).

A global example, Christians. (Not bagging out Christianity or anything, but we all know there are the few Christians that take things way out of hand in any/every way possible. I think you'd know what I'm talking about.)

Wow speaking of ignorant? You use Christians as your example? So..satanists that still 'sarcrifice' animals to this day and age arn't taking things out of hand? You could have even used the KKK for exmaple.

Geez. No offence but that was a stupid example.

one word posts are not always the results of people trying to raise their crunchy posts. you can do that quickly by just commenting on each episode you watch and those remarks are limited to 240 characters. i think sometimes the threads themselves aren't phrased in a way that is condusive to prolonged and/or intelligent discussion. and most of these threads are started by the 13-15 yo crunchy users. your typical thread is a versus thread. do you like A or B. with those kind of questions one word is all you need.
the internet creates a virtual reality where people feel they can do whatever, whenever or however they want. there are no readily enforceable rules. online etiquette has developed, but most people don't follow it. if you aren't polite in your everyday life, you're not going to develope manners because you're online. then there is the whole announymnity issue. when people feel they are not going to be caught they do stuff they wouldn't do at home. take all the girl gone wild videos. those girls would not be running around topless in their hometown, they do that stuff on vacation or away from there family's eyes. that's why they say "what happens in (fill-in the-city) stays in (city).i've read posts where there were blatantly explicit use of language, openly racists, sexists remarks made and you know they don't talk like that offline. if everybody went around saying everything they thought, peole'd be fighting in the streets hourly. they act a fool online because they can. nobody knows who you really are or where you live, and there is no "police" to make you behave. shinji and the mods do their best, but they can't read every post or comment that's made as it's made. all they can do is clean-up, but by then the damage is done, users get offended, and reply in kind and it's a never-ending cycle. hate breeds hate, stupidity breeds stupidity. monkey see, monkey do.
All you can do is monitor yourself. there are plenty of threads which push my buttons, and when i see what they are about, i scroll on by them. if it's something i feel is worth commenting on, i do. but, some people will always feel they are correct even if you present them with evidence that they are wrong. what can you do? just let it go.

Well this section would allow the however many percent of crunchyroll users that want to discuss on a decent topic without the usual one to two word answers. But I highly doubt that many users will ever use this section of the forum.

Has anyone else noticed that a few posts in this thread are almost exactly what we've been talking about?
Apart from the "yo" from that guy who was probably being a smart-arse and joking around, some of the other posts make me cringe (extended discussion style).

Do you know what an example is....
I could have listed many things as you did but I decided to take an example.

Stop trying to start something on the net. Obviously you don't know what I'm talking about with that example and I'll show you next time you're on MSN. Ask me and I'll show give you that link that just has quote after quote of Christians being absolutely ridiculous (Josh gave it to me). And as I said, I'm talking about the FEW who take things out of hand, not you Rice 08 lovers (LOL).
Idiot. I win. (you landed on Boardwalk)

Btw are you at CHunter atm?

What is crunchyroll? It's a site for people to watch asian media. Mainly, animes and kdramas. People aren't here to discuss the political/social/religious/etc issues of the day.

In the interests of coherence, I'll elaborate.

This forum will benefit all peoples in several ways -- mainly, it'll give the snobby kids a seperate playpen from the little kids. Thus, there will be no more reason for the snobby kids to deride the little kids for their "lack of intelligence" in an effort to curb behavior that they don't agree with for selfish reasons. This will lead to greater overall satisfaction for all involved. Also, the snobby kids can deride each other in fun-filled arguments wherein no compromise will be reached, but great entertainment can be had. Not to mention a curious little kid might wander in, absorb some information, and evolve into a snobby kid. This will be accompanied by flashing lights and theme music.

Last point -- on the internet, rationality is subjective.
