Why would I feel sorry for myself? When you're feeling down, no matter how badly, just...feel better.

I'm assuming you've never been through depression have you?

My answer would be others feeling sorry for me. People pitying you just makes you feel even worse.

Both feeling sorry for yourself and actively trying to have everyone else feel sorry for you would top my list but in my opinion, being cold and distant and acting like you don't care for anyone or anything in the world is worse. It's one thing to feel sorry for yourself or having someone else pity you, it's another thing to sneer at the very idea of being understood.
While pity won't get anyone anywhere, apathy and a cold shoulder has you walking backwards.

I hate it when people pity me, because I know they just feel bad and aren't going to help me. I don't mind pitying others, because I usually help them out (money problem and whatnot)

feeling sorry for myself. I'm the worst critic... and i'm not just saying that like any other self proclaimed 'perfectionist'
luckily... i'm pretty good at denial and i find myself terribly annoying so i tend to block myself out when my inner naggy me is complaining.

Both are bad. Overthinking myself or having people showing empathy for me is just out of place. I had enough of being dissapointed over such things. It's much better to feel sorry for others or use your energy to help others or at least think about them and what they are stuck in... It feels much better to give something than recieve anything. Anyday people... Anyday...

Clearly the words of someone who's either joking, or never felt any strong sadness. If you can just choose to feel better, then you weren't sad in the first place. Emotions are what we feel as a result of events and the resultant thoughts. They are not choices. If they were, why on earth would anyone be so moronic as to choose to be unhappy?

I've never truly felt some overcome emotion for more than a couple minutes, but it was easy to just stop and choose to not be like that. All people aren't like that?

I'm assuming you've never been through depression have you?

After I saw how my mother was affected by depression, I decided I would never feel any such thing.

I feel so useless when people feel sorry for me. I don't want to leave that burden on people so I'll carry it myself, no matter what.

Kinda depressing topic, eh! XD
