I hope that when all these series end, so will the concept of a big 3 in anime altogether. I'm tired of seeing low quality, long running, filler-fest shounen touted by fans as being the epitome of what makes a good anime series. There are way more than 3 series at any given time that are worth comparing.

Bleach's manga is still going it's getting better and I'm sort of a fan but it's been mid tear since the soul society arc ended. Hopefully the last arc gets animated.
Naruto was amazing but now it's just terrible and a former shell of itself I'm still reading because I don't want to waste all the time I did spend on it.
One Piece is the second best manga of all time and my favorite it does everything right with very few faults it got me back into anime and manga.
Toriko is becoming one of my favorites and I'm exited for its future I hope it soon gets the popularity it deserves and saves shonen
Hunter X Hunter IS the best shonen of all time no doubt hopefully it begins again soon so the pain will end.

Fairy tail just sucks so bad it's painful in my opinion why read this garbage when there is what I posted above it's even worse than naruto and that's saying something. It's just my opinion you can like it if you do I won't blame you but I just find it bad.

One Piece is the best selling yo, 345 million copies, Dragonball has about 260 mill, the Japanese loves there One Piece lol

Lol I understand how u feel, Theres alot of other great anime/manga out there, but One Piece is a great story and is very successful in Japan, and it slowly spreading to the west now that the 4kids wound is healing, and as long as Oda's alive One Piece will be ongoing for another 10 years, so hoping for it to finish is kinda impossible at this point, since he stated Whitebeard War was the Halfway Mark

Attack on Titan, maybe. But I feel like to be part of the big 3, an anime would need to be a lot longer. Even if it's getting a second season, it still feels like it won't be long enough.

Seeing as the name, "the big 3" was made for those anime, yeah I guess it will be. Though people will always be trying to separate anime like that in all genres and demographics so similar terms might appear. And they are popular anime so it's stupid to think they would disappear, like DBZ for dozens of years they will still be popular and aired on tv(especially One Piece as it has still about a decade left). Will long running shounens ever end? Most likely not because people like them, a lot.

When are people going to realize that the big 3 isn't even a thing anymore.

It's not what it used to be in the slightest, and just because a show gets popular, doesn't mean it replaces something in "the big 3". It's just another popular show. There are a lot of popular big shonens right now.

In Japan there is no big 3.
It's One Piece alone over there.
Though of course they might've adapted the term big 3 from us now :P
But it's not AoT and Kuroko at least.

The concept of ''Big 3'' never existed in Japan. It was coined by American fans to describe the 3 most popular anime in the West at a certain time. Whether they were anime fans or not, a lot of people heard of/knew/watched/loved One Piece, Naruto and Bleach. They were all very popular at the same time and for a long period of time in the West. They were dubbed, aired on TV (toonami/adult swim/4kids/disneyXD...), had multiple movies, sold video games, toys, etc...

And the term ''Big 3'' isn't a hereditary title. It'll surely end with those three anime unless three other anime come in one day at more or less the same time and have the same kind of popularity as those three had. Seems very unlikely that'll ever happen again. Being talked about a lot on CR forums doesn't mean you're popular, having 1.5 million people tune in at midnight to watch your anime does.

Hiatus x Hiatus: Easily comparable quality-wise, but it can't reach that sort of popularity if it can't even come to the West. And it's on ''hiatus''.

Toriko: Toei butchered what was already a mediocre manga. Not a lot of people seem to care about this show here anyways.

Attack on Titan: It'll never run long enough even with 1 or 2 more seasons.

Gintama: Will never come to the West.

Fairy Tail: The closest one to legitimately reach ''Big 3'' status but it suffers from lack of promotion here. Hopefully toonami, nick or disneyxd pick this up.

Qualifications to be a ''Big'':
-Be extremely popular in the West.
-Have a dub
-Air on TV (in the West)
-Multiple movies
-Sell Video Games, Toys and other merch

All these happened for One Piece, Naruto and Bleach. What other recent show has or do you see having all those?
