Well, let's talk about her plagiarism. Who is she, though? She is author of the City of Bones and The Mortal Instruments series. She got the first book from her friend Holy Black, who recommended her and helped her get published. The movie is coming out this summer! Check out the trailer!

She plagiarized and was major cyber bully in her day, and that much as a fact is known and can be seen in these links.

Other documented sources 'disappeared' on the day the trailer was released.

What do you think of this? Since I really want to see people who have not heard of this or seen it's approach to this. Here is some counter approach links to her plagiarism.

What is your stance on the subject? Do you think she was right, and that she isn't a plagiarist, and she should be left alone, or be rightfully hated and maybe sued for her City of Bones and plagiarism?

Edit:

No one? I'd hoped to get a little opinion out of people.

Meh, never heard of her or her work. Don't know about plagiarism but a good bit of stuff in that trailer makes me think of other works but that's not really an uncommon problem.

As far as I know, the plagiarism was all in her fanfic and not in her actual published works, so I don't think she should be sued for it, especially since she's already done everything she can to purge it from the internet. However, I don't particularily care for her as an author, and her attitude makes me dislike her as a person. I wouldn't actively hate her or anything, but I certainly wont be buying any of her works or merchandise related to them.

It's Cassandra Clare btw lol.

I remember hearing about her plagiarizing other books/ taking ideas, but honestly I still love them.
The Mortal Instruments maybe started off as being similar, but as the story progressed it became a world of its own. The Infernal Devices, for example, is her best book series yet to me; I adore it, and I don't see any plagiarism there. It shows she's not unoriginal or constantly taking other people's ideas.
I think she's a pretty good writer despite her shaky start off.
I think she should be left alone, really. It wasn't blatant plagiarism, and CoB was released in 2007 - I think it's a little too late now, you know?

& as for her being a cyber bully-it doesn't really affect me in any way because I don't buy books because of the author's personalities. I have no clue if she's a sweetheart or if she's a jerk. I'm a fan of her books and writing, not necessarily her (although I will add that I follow her on her social media sties & she seems to be really nice? So maybe a change of heart or false accusations?)

Lol, her original name she went by is Cassandra Claire and which is why I refer to her like that, and I'm to used to it. She just removed the i anyway so I refer to her by her original name, mostly because I like it better and it makes no difference with me to remove the i. :)

Actually if you read the link, she did do it purposely, and it is why she was deleted from fanfiction.com . Though she hasn't been caught to be plagiarizing in her book. I see people with more of having a problem with City of Bones and the others than Infernal Devices, though.

I think she's pretty good too, with exception of the plagiarism which makes me wary of her books, and how she somehow turned into City of Bones even if it is somewhat original.

I noticed that soon afterwards and was like "wow I sounded like a pretentious douche bag" lol.

It's an ass move to make obviously, but along with other fans I'm not going to abandon the franchise over it. I still love the books, and the series is ending anyways (with the exception of the two other series coming up) so while I'm not going to blindly defend or follow her, I'll just keep on reading haha. That plagiarism must have hit something inside her though, because she's created a whole entire world based on this one idea. I can't believe she hasn't run out of juice on this whole "shadowhunter" concept.

Lol, you didn't sound like a douche bag, you were right in correcting me, but I'm to used to Claire.

I think she was a creative person from the start, and that's how she was able to create this world. I stopped at book 3, but the books seem still be good. I understand, I do like the series too, but a bit sticking away because of the plagiarism, but I do want to read Infernal Devices. I do hope the movie turns out okay, though, as some movies can ruin a book's rep.

Claire is a 'ficcer making money from changing the names on her 'fic and presenting it as original. Yes, she is also renowned for the part she played in the "Ms. Scribe" debacle, but most of us in the 'fic community know her first and foremost for breaking our No. 1 Rule: You don't profit from 'fic. Ever.
