Does anyone have any stories of the first con they have ever been and want to share. I won't be attending my first one until October and I would love to know what a first experience was like.

Short summary - fun but expensive!

First time for me was Otakon over in Baltimore, and I was able to go with a friend I'd made through a professional convention I'd attended earlier. Sadly, I got an off-site hotel room to save money, and ended up spending more in cab fares than I saved by staying at a separate location. On the plus site, we watched a ton of anime with some of her friends, wandered around and bought a lot of stuff from the dealer's room (this was more important back then, since it was a lot more difficult to find the stuff online), and got to interact with a bunch of panelists like voice actors we enjoyed.

My second was A-Kon in Dallas the next year, where I was smarter and got the on-site hotel. Much more enjoyable, and it was my first time cosplaying as well. Even got to meet the VA for the cosplay I was in!

I attendedmy first Anime con last weekend.. It was a dissapointment, the reason I went was to purchase some anime dvd's.. the dealer room had none.. none at all. 6 dealers selling costumes/accessories. Just check out the con you go to to make sure it has what you want. (the one I went to was heaven for cosplayers but being the old man that I am it was not good) Good luck with your con, I hope it is much bigger and better than mine.

I attended Anime Expo 2007 when it was held in Long Beach, I had a lot of fun meeting cool people at the convention, preventing my friend from dying of starvation and losing a lot of weight because of all the waiting in line in the sun and walking a few blocks away to get non-expensive convention food. I think we met a lot of cosplayer girls and some from the early myspace days haha.

I did get to meet the PR of NIS and she is really cool and remembered me from year to year. That is also when I got really into NIS games and Disgaea (2 just came out that year.) There was a secret NIS event that I got invited to and not much else I remember since that was a long time ago. But yeah cons are as fun as you want them to be.

My first con was Tora-Con in 2010 and it was a great experience and a lot of fun. I found a lot of unique and interesting stuff to buy and the people I talked to were really nice and friendly. I also enjoyed seeing all the different cosplays.

i just went to my first con and it was really pleasant...there was a lot of cool things and people i saw. My personal favorite was just how much things there was to buy. i like the artist alley the most where people brought their drawings and stuff to sell...and people have some high quality stuff...they looked like official posters

I enjoyed it. My first one was last year in San Jose. Fanime. Went with a whole bunch of friends and most of us dressed up. Plus other cosplayers from my area (Central Valley of CA) where there. So it was nice running into people that you knew and lived in the same area as you. Small world or maybe it's just California.

I went to my first anime convention just last month! A few of my friends invited me to go with them and I had a great time. There were tons of things to do and see (ie. cosplay, artists, vendors).

My first anime convention was in 2009. It was my first year in college as well so I was living in the dorms and was close enough to the convention to finally go. Two of my friends drove up to meet me with some hitch. There was supposed to be another girl with us, but she had gotten ill on the way and they had to drive her back (it was appendicitis so luckily they got her to the hospital in time).

We spent the first day wandering around not really sure what was going on. The next day, we did major panel hopping which was fun since we were able to see quite a lot of interesting things. That night, we decided to stay overnight at the con so fighting to stay away while watching anime in a dark room was fun. To this day, I can only remember glimpses of a trippy anime that made me burst into giggles.

All the following conventions I've gone to since has never been able to live up to my first, especially since I've gotten more involved with cosplay and con staffing (and soon artist alley), there is less time to explore.

With the right sort of friends and having no worries except having fun, will make your con experience amazing.

My first one was last year at CCEE 2012. I went as an attendee and brought my camera to take shots of all the cool cosplayer and panelists I wanted to see. They had the entire cast of Star Trek TNG!

It was a lot to take in and 3 full days was very exhausting. But I regret nothing and it's now an annual trip for me.

Things I learned was definitely to bring water and snacks. Take short rests throughout the day and going with friends or meeting friends there makes it so much more fun.
