My first anime convention year was 2003. Been pretty much going every year, till I took time away from conventions in 2010 and 2011.

Been to many personally. Not sure it means that anime is getting more popular at the same rate of increase, but rather that there are more conventions popping up to support the fans that were there already, and that those fans are willing to come out and be seen as being fans. I remember at my first A-Kon I was interviewed for a local TV station that was rather incredulous that anyone would be willing to say they were an anime fan - at my most recent, the local mall population didn't bat an eye at hordes of cosplayers in the food court.

It would make sense because in 1998, anime streaming was not something that people can afford, I mean most of us were doing those dail-ups thing with the annoying tone...

It's not until there were faster internet, more bandwidth space, and more sites offering anime streaming, that we saw a rise in anime awareness.
And online anime communities also contribute to this awareness, therefore allowing more people the chance to become anime fans and go to conventions to meet up with other fans or buy merchandise from their favourite anime.

There's one in Sydney every August, so it's coming up soon. I'm thinking about it, whether to go this year or next year, I'm not sure.

I don't like planning things, I want to live the moment, if on that day I feel like going, I will go, if I don't feel like it, I won't go. I'm very impulsive and reliant on what I feel.

I like anime conventions.

I like going to Onicon in Galveston, Texas, and Delta H Con in Houston.

I was an audio tech for Ohayocon. Only problem with that convention (and I assume it's somewhat similar at other conventions) is that the panels and events focus only on the super popular anime, like DBZ, Naruto and Pokemon. Not much love for a lot of the stuff I like on here. That said, I'm sure at least AN is an exception.
