@Whomever made the picture. I don't think you're quite at the mental age to be safely using the internet.

@Ang3lOfLight, I would be horrified if the producers of anime did actually read these types of forums, but I highly doubt that they do. Not sure if the producers/directors etc can read English? (I am incredibly sorry if you can read English. I mean no disrespect). Godda cover my bases, you've made me paranoid.

On topic: Whilst I understand why you had to choose an example, this kind of topic encompasses everything. It's not just Sword Art Online, or even anime in general. There is extreme criticism towards everything.

I love SAO, both Arcs, it's by far my favourite anime, I do understand it has some flaws (please tell me which show doesn't have flaws), but I have read the LN and I do think that the producers did an excellent job with fitting it all into 25 episodes.

I think that - and this echos what LynnTerra and kdawg3484 said - if you don't feel the connection with the show/don't see the meaning of it, I doubt that you'll like it and to me, that's fine. I am a person that can understand that everyone likes different things.

But that's my opinion. I'll gladly discuss SAO or anything that I'm interested in for days. But what I can't understand, and what I'll never be able to understand is if you don't like the show or anything for that matter, why do people feel the compulsion to take said thing they don't like and drag it through a field of pig manure. So many people (mind you, I was pleasantly surprised by the small amount of "haters" in this thread) can't just post objectively about why they don't like it and leave it at that. I just don't get it.

If you don't like it, great. That's fine, I respect that. But do you think the people who do like it care to know just how much you hate it? Would you like it if we did it to you? Nope.

These things will always have a flow on effect. Once one person becomes vocal, others will speak up and the toxicity of it rises to the point where a lot of people will end up either loving it or hating it, with extremes on both sides. Fanboys Vs. Haters, both as bad as each other.

Do feel like pointing out a few things though

There will always be haters for anything that is popular. That being said, if the series in question does have objectively low value, then that hate will be magnified. SAO is one of my least favourite shows among the anime I've seen, but it is still not nearly as terrible as the haters make it out to be. It is average, or just slightly above that at best, but people tend to be harsher when their expectations are raised.

Like has been said before, give people an expectation that a show will be average, let them watch it and see that it truly is average, and they will be satisfied. On the other hand, give them the expectation that it is going to be the greatest thing ever, and it crushes that expectation, you get a whole of lot hate. More hate than if you had told them it was not so great in the first place.

I think that also works in reverse. Those who are new to anime or have not seen that much anime that start with a mediocre or average show might think it is the best thing ever, without having seen other series to compare. I believe that is how shows like Clannad get their popularity for being sad, because there are much sadder anime out there that offer even more. Not being exposed to more anime, they conclude that theone show they have watched must be the best in the genre.

I do like it that's why I'm telling these people to stop hating on the show and go somewhere else...jeez it's getting on my nerves. It's like One Piece, Bleach and Hunter X Hunter people are just finding an excuse to just hate on the show

To be honest i think over-hype/over-rated is a neww negative quality for an anime, because for me and many other peopleit twistes the way we view an anime/ makes the anime not seem that great due to us feeling the praise over exagerates the good in the anime.

@Ang3lOfLight -- my apologies, the bulk of my post was towards the main topic, not directed at you ^^; - I definitely agree with you though.

That's a really solid point. But I do think it depends on how much you let yourself get carried away by the hype and how much of it is taken to heart. I no longer get my hopes up for new games for example because of constant let down but I can definitely relate to and understand if people get frustrated when something they're looking forward to ends up being a disappointment to them.

Actually I remember there being a statement recently... I want to say from the guys working on Log Horizon... that they do sometimes scroll through the forums and video comments. Usually to get an idea about their show as to whether it warrants a new season. They even commented how CR is a big player in deciding if it does or not since it is such a huge Anime community, from comments and probably view count and what not.

Also just a little tidbit on the English part... English is actually part of Japanese schooling. So while perhaps a lot may not be excellent at English (just like a lot of Americans are not excellent at learning Foreign Languages) they still "know" it in a sense and can read/write in English, just perhaps not fluently.

In fact I believe it was the writer of the LH novels who went on... 4Chan?? I believe is what it is called... and was answering questions there, in English, about the novels, and where the Anime may or may not go, without just spoiling it straight out.

I had been wondering about how much influence Crunchyroll had on the industry and I am impressed, but not surprised that the site does in fact get attention from the producers themselves.

As for the English, I wasn't entirely sure because I watched the SAO director and producer at Anime Boston being translated. But it would definitely make sense for that to be the case if they only knew the basics.

Ah yes, I did indeed read about the LH author going to 4chan. I do hope the people in the LH thread are being nice!

- That all being said, I do sincerely hope that the producers that do read the forums take the objective discussion from all of it. It would be extremely disappointing for anyone to hear that their favourite should was being abandoned due to too much hate. The people that are passionate about things don't usually post or say anything, they go with the flow and silently hope that some new seasons come out.

I hope too that there will be a second season* (sorry! just had to correct you). It does seem that there is a lot of good vibes coming from the SAO community at the moment, especially with the Extra Edition coming out.

Hey! Fairy Dance isn't fan fiction!

I liked it, even the Fairy Dance arc (though it wasn't as enjoyable as the Aincrad arc), Loved the characters and music. Nice balance of the action and romance. It's not amazing but it's a good series. It shows how people are in an MMO and how they deal with other players.

My initial thought as well. Anytime I see someone has awoken the sleeping dogs I assume it's AK.

I think a reason it gets a lot of hate is that most people watched and enjoyed the first couple episodes. Then it just totally s%#^# itself.
