When I started watching anime, I would invariably forget the names of all the characters. I would remember faces, the flow of their character arcs, detailed personality descriptions, ect; but, never names. I sometimes came up with nicknames and the like, usually based off haircolour or personality traits. Though, the more anime I watched, the more names started to stick. I imagine my primary problem was that I was unuse to Japanese sounds. These days, if the character stood out enough, barring any temporary memory lapses, I can typically produce their name. Both family and given names if I liked them enough; the primary name for reference depending on the characters presentation, or my impression of them.

I used to be good at remembering the names, but watching more and more anime means that there are always more names to remember, and it does not help that there are several repeats of many of the names. Thank goodness for Wikis.

Exactly this for me as well.

And books, and movies. It was a real pain the other day, when I tried listening to my first audiobook, because I'd keep forgetting which name went to which of the two main characters, and I had to keep rewinding it. Unless it's a really remarkable name, or it's a series I rewatch/reread several times, I'm just going to forget it :/

Lol It's a tie!

I always forget char names and it sucks, but I think the message of the show is more important than the characters names within them so it doesn't bother me too much.

I can remember my favorites because I've watched those shows enough times to have them down, but with any newer shows or shows I haven't seen that much then I'd be lucky to remember half of the names of the main characters. Never mind any of the lesser characters.

Heck, I usually don't even learn all the characters' names until I'm well into the series. For example, Attack on Titan is about Eren, Mikasa...and that other guy.

When I first started watching sub anime's I'd forget them all, afterall how am I supposed to remember some name in a language I don't speak like Haruhi Suzumiya(I sure hope I spelled that right), just never happened.
I do remember most names though, unless the character only showed up in a single episode or something.
Though if it's a short anime, or I've only watched one or two episodes, then I usually don't remember anything more than the main character.
I still remember this one anime that I forgot the name of, was only 6 episodes, great anime, and I don't even remember the name or the characters to go back and rewatch it, lol.

Yes, but I'm terrible with names in general, so I don't think I'm any worse with anime than I am with everything else.

I tend to remember most names, as long as they leave some impact on me then I will remember them.

Kind of depends on how much I'm enjoying the series. If it's my favorite of the season, I'll remember all of the main character's names and probably the secondary character's as well.. if I'm not enjoying it that much, though.. I might be lucky to remember more than two..

I often have to go back and relearn the names. Except Tatenashi (IS2). And Hinoki (Betterman).
