First of all I want to make it very clear that I am still to this day a Naruto fan, since it is something I don't believe just dulls over night, but then again the show has given its fans plenty of time to reconsider how much this show still means to them.

I am of course referring to the absolute horrid amount of fillers as of lately.
Before we continue I want to make sure that everyone's absolutely certain of the term "filler" in this context, since I notice that it gets thrown around in the wrong context much too often.

A filler episode is generally an episode in which there is no plot development.

Credit goes to Shiningfasky on http://wiki.answers.com/ for this very clear and easy to understand definition.

So obviously we have seen some plot development over the last 1 and a half season, it's just the issue that it has been reduced to a snail like pace that seems to never end, which causes agony among fans.

But let's be realistic, because we have to remember that the Anime tries to stay very close to the Manga and it caught up alright.
The issue at hand is obvious, they have to postpone any sort of progress in the story and character development due to the show catching up to the Manga too fast.

Well there's that way to look at it, and then there's the more negative approach that seems to beg the question
"are they just milking the franchise by now?"
Arguebly the biggest Anime outside of Japan since One Piece or even Dragon Ball, it's obviously bound to take advantage of its prosperous phase, and they certainly aren't afraid of keeping the fans at bay with waves of fillers that we don't want.

So, a conclusion!
Since it won't change any time soon, what could be improved?

Personally I have so many ideas as to what could be awesome to take up plenty of fillers.
Among some of my ideas are - Origins on several characters/clans/divisions.
Some that I would prioritate would be - Rise of the Uchiha Clan, Root foundation, Hinata (sorry, I'm in love with this fictional babe *ahem* I mean character) can't get enough of her, Orochimaru's rise to evil (younger years, Jiraya+Rin coverage wouldn't hurt either) Several of the Akatsuki clan members origin and their path to their evil ways (Especially Kisame and Itachi's origin)

Also, why do people seem to hate Naruto just for the sake of hating it?
I brought it up in a discussion with some of my friends not so long ago, and some of them went
"Naruto? are you kidding me?"
Funnily enough, they couldn't even give me a reason to why it was something that sucks, hell they didn't even bring up the issue of the abundance of fillers.

Has it become the Call of Duty of the Anime world?

Do you have anything that you would love to see covered in Filler episodes?
Personally I really think that they're slacking way too much, since there's so many things that they could cover that would be far more interesting than say, that one time Naruto and his friends met a kid that could affect the elements by the force of his emotions, and generally any fucking Naruto filler since the show is about! YOU GUESSED IT! Naruto, so we really don't need anymore background on this character.

It's just a shame that a show like Naruto doesn't utilize its plethora of awesome characters, since there are so many good ones.

The problem i'm having with Naruto is not just the fillers itself, but the content of the fillers. The fillers are hardly entertaining, or including a good short story. Not to mention how they keep making fillers that contradict things happening later in the manga:

Well either way i don't plan on dropping it just yet, seeing as i have watched it for so long.

The quality of the anime is prob enough to give naruto a bad name. I mean specially during filler episodes. If you freze frame it looks as if some characters are drawn by 8 year olds, specially white zetsus. Like what the hell white zetsus just stand there all day then jump one by one to get punched and die. If these were the first episodes of naruto someone made me watch I would laugh and never give it a chance.

On the bright side did anyone check the preview for the next episode when madara fights. Looks like they stepped up the animations by alot. Its like a 2 different anime's this latest episode then check the preview for the next.
anyone else see it?

I totally agree. Also this war is supposed to be dark and gruesome what the hell is Yota doing in the war, And a bunch of kids with swords from the cloud some of which are 8 years old and there just slashing white zetsus. Damn everyone can beat zetsus.

It's still the 2nd most important ongoing anime/manga right now.
Though to be honest, I couldn't care less about the anime.
The manga is a hundred times better so....

To answer the OP's question, I'll just go with ha suggestions.

Rise of the Uchiha Clan, Root foundation, Hinata

My point exactly.

This is unfortunately true in many ways.
It's obviously a matter of priority in its production value i.e the difference between a link between the story and a filler episode.

Though to be honest, I couldn't care less about the anime.

Thought you should know that I've never read the Manga and I don't intend to.
I like to draw a line between the two medias, since they are too varied in context of quality etc.
Began watching Naruto when it aired on Danish television back when I was 13-14? can't remember... Long ago!
And searched the internet for available seasons out of interest, and I have considered my self a fan ever since.
Even though I did skip out on the last 4 seasons of "Naruto Unleashed"

No its not my friend. I don't think Masashi Kishimoto even knows whats going on in his own manga. Its pretty nonsensical to be honest

This is all me.

To me the manga is what keeps the anime alive, if I didn't know what went on in the manga; I'd probably would have given up a long time ago.

This is all me.

Each to their own.

My point is simply that the Manga doesn't carry the Anime apart from how it all began.
The Anime has its own fanbase, much like the manga does.

For me Naruto was at its best during the Sasuke retrieval arc, it used to be one of my absolute favourite animes back then! I thought it was great when it was just about a couple of young ninjas doing missions as a team and so on however all these complications Naruto has begun to take on just makes it feel so different to the Naruto I used to enjoy when I was younger.

Also I really do not care about this Shinobi great war or whatever that is going on now. It just seems to be a slaughter fest of Zetsus accompanied by a lot of meaningless fillers with Kabuto just bringing back characters who should have died a long time ago (which ultimately just makes this feel endless). Honestly this so called "war" does not really seem to have much of an impact (perhaps because it has been diluted in an endless sea of fillers). As a fan of Bleach as well I cannot help but compare this war to the one thousand year blood war that is happening in Bleach at the minute. For me the one thousand year blood war had so much more of an impact then the war happening in Naruto solely because it happened so quickly and nobody really saw it coming (it was full of surprise after surprise) where we saw thousands of shinigamis die out of the blue. I do not read the Naruto manga so I do not know if the war is portrayed any better there than it is in the anime but for me Naruto is really just milking this war out too long and it would have been better if it was much faster paced like the one in Bleach.

Of course manga or original source material >>>>>>>>>>Anime but the way the manga is going right now is ridiculous

Great Ninja War=Most convoluted thing I have seen since Resident Evil 3

People who solely watch the anime has no hope as you said

I agree.
Also, the so called "war" going on in Shippuden at the moment has little if not close to no consequential outcome on the characters we care about.
The whole ordeal is just a flashy bunch of fireworks falling flat, like a Michael Bay movie, but with an unfortunate production value for the most part.

The plot devices pretty much failed after Shippuden started, as it focused too much on the NarutoxSasuke relationship. If only Shippuden focused more on the main rookie characters that the original Naruto did; which I mean Neji, Rock Lee, Gaara, Shikamaru etc etc. The reason many people loved Naruto was because of these characters in the original Naruto and we all had at least one character that we loved. However Shippuden deviated from that and followed the angsty relationship of NarutoxSasuke and look where they are now. The NarutoxSasuke build up seems pretty redundant now.
