I personally don't like being lied to. I feel as though I get half the information and therefore make half correct choices. For instance, when people plan surprise parties for me (the ones they can keep as a surprise) I end up doing something for myself outside the area of contact. I've been yelled at on my own birthday because of this.

On the other hand, like others have said, some people just can't handle the truth and some things just need to stay secret. What immediately comes to mind is a person going into a relationship with a rape victim. I'm sure they don't want to open up about it, at least not immediately, and it's not an issue that should be pressed.

If for nothing else it is a good measure of the intelligence of a person. The best liars are analytical and imaginative.

I don't really care. Everybody lies. I'm not gonna drive myself nuts with trying to figure out if someone is lying to me or not. I take whatever people say as they are. You tell me you're Batman, ok cool. I believe you. I have no reason not to anyway. At the end of the day, my conscience is clear, I sleep well at night, and I can live my life as it is without having to worry about remembering to keep my story straight. That's all that really matters to me.

I feel that people shouldn't lie if they feel like they've done something wrong. It's a lot better in the long run to come out with the truth sooner.

But if someone were to hide their shame (one that doesn't harm others), then I'd probably feel sympathetic towards that person.

Lying is acceptable and common practice in the business and corporate world to gain advantages. Competition is tough and you need every edge you can get.

There's nothing wrong with lying by itself. It's only wrong to hurt people.

For example, maybe you would lie about how into sports you are, in order to make friends. They aren't really suffering as a result of believing in your lie, and they won't really suffer if they find out the truth.

I think that lying not for the sake of making something up but for if I there was something better left untold. There are some things I probably wouldn't tell my friends anytime soon and lie about because I feel like it would benefit them and me if I just left it untold.
