I don't know about the bigger cities, but here, for the first two movies, they were shown using a digital projection system driven from blu-rays. Our theater was on the small side, so it worked well. I have no idea if other locations got film, though I have my doubts.

At the anime film festivals last fall I was informed that exactly one film they got was on film, the rest were displayed digitally. Christie Digital projectors... Not much film anymore

That's a bummer, but better than nothing I guess. I just can't imagine a theater around here even giving it any screen time unless it was one of those weird 10am showings so it wouldn't conflict with anything else.

Even during October in a city with two colleges I wouldn't expect them to sell more than a handful of tickets.

Trailer for the third and final film of the trilogy:

Don’t forget.
Always, somewhere,
someone is fighting for you.
As long as you remember her,
you are not alone

I'm so excited for the third movie. I'm going in with caution though, I feel like PMMM ended just fine, and that this movie is redundant. Not to mention that since PMMM is so popular now, there's going to be a lot of pandering for the yuri crowd. But I have so much faith in Urobutchi. It's sure to be good.

I purchased the Blu-ray release and really enjoyed the recaps. Very excited for the next movie!
