Hey guys,

Roku recently asked me to do a review of my Roku 3 box & I gave you guys a little constructive criticism. Have to say that I love you guys & have been with you from the beginning (watching Macross Frontier & etc before you went legit). Here goes:

The content for the Crunchroll channel is outstanding but the channel does have issues:

Lately shows on Crunchyroll have stopped & reloaded multiple times, even for shows that aren't in HD. One half hour show may have 2-5 pauses, that doesn't make for enjoyable viewing. Even though my wireless (& wired) network enable me to watch shows of the highest quality for Vudu & Netflix with 4 solid "quality dots", the most I get for any Crunchyroll broadcast is 2, more often 1 (especially lately). I hate to crack on what is probably my favorite Roku channel but it's quality has definitely slipped, maybe they're concentrating on adding new platforms (PS3, Apple). Really hope they address these issues in the near future...

--I just want you guys to get better & hopefully you're working on it...

This has no bearing at all on your website (or Android app, though I don't use that often), no issues with it at all. Lately I've run a long HDMI cable to my projector so if I'm gonna watch the 'roll I've been watching from the computer instead of the Roku.

The Roku is a convenient platform to stream from & does it very well. I've got 3 of them & just bought the Roku 3 - the first channels I added were Netflix & Crunchyroll. I'd prefer to use the Roku due to it's convenience but it just isn't convenient to use now for CR viewing (until the issues I mentioned are addressed)...

Thanks for hearing me out

Hi Mikein, you can read some of the posts from Crunchyroll staff in this forum and see that the current Roku buffering issues are due to their work on a new Roku App and streaming method which should be ready soon. It will supposidley look like the PS3 App and will allow higher quality streams (3 or maybe even 4 dots which I assume means 720p or 1080p). The current Crunchyroll Roku app has never been able to stream at more than two dots.

PS I'm not trying to justify or excuse the crappy buffering we've been experiencing. Just sharing some info I thought you might be interested in.

Each day I try to watch my shows, I grow increasingly frustrated.

I do know that the new Roku app will be available "soon." However, we've been told this for over a month now.

Is it possible to get at least a rough estimate of when the app will be available? Later this month? September? December?

Thank you!

Yeah, I'm also wondering what "soon" means. Are we talking a matter of days, weeks, months?

I hope it's not like when I had my cable installed. When I moved to this area, they said the high speed internet would be available about 1 month after I moved in and that they would install the modem, but not charge me until it was up and running. When the cable guy comes to install the service, I find out the cable system had been swapped to Time Warner and they canceled their equipment order because it wasn't compatible with TW. I was also told it would only be 3-6 months before Time Warner had it installed. Three months turned to three years and TW sold the system. Windjammer took over and said said that IF they decided to install HSI, they'd let me know after it was in. four months later, I had HSI.

I really hope to hear an update on when the new Roku App will be out, as the viewing experience on the current Crunchyroll Roku App has become painfully unbearable for over the last month. Viewing during the day isn't too bad, but at night the one dot, plus constant buffering and rebuffering to watch any shows on the app has become seriously frustrating. The buffering time at night can take up to 5 minutes or longer at times with just one dot of quality. Being a subscriber for over the past 2 years, the longest I have ever seen Crunchyroll have issues with the Roku app is for about a one week before there was a resolution to any problems. It has been over a month now with the current streaming issues. I will continue to be patient and hopeful for the new Roku App to come out soon since I do love you guys. Any updates though would be appreciated.

I sat down with the engineers today and asked about this and it should be in the next couple weeks.

Hi Baker,

If you need a beta tester, let me know.

Could you also ask them to make it harder to delink the account? My mother has been delinking the account about once a day trying to get something to play. She doesn't mean to, it just happens.

I believe that with the new layout it will be a little bit harder to unlink an account!

I have to wait a lot of time to see any series at night and watch them in one dot, I hope this app comes out soon.

I've been having these same troubles on my Roku ~ with the drama as well, which buffers at two dots and doesn't seem to drop down to one dot.

I really don't mind the image quality dropping (sometimes my Netflix on the Roku is awfully muddy), but with the constant buffering, I'm now watching on my 4.3" Android player rather than my Roku ~ and with Netflix and HBO2Go working on the Roku, I'm not watching as much Crunchyroll as I was back in winter.

Hopefully when the new version comes out, it works well on the Roku 1 generation hardware, I don't have a new Roku on my shopping list for this year.

Same here, been having problems with Roku, only on Crunchyroll for many weeks. Come around 10:00 PM, the reloading video cycles starts up, whether its anime or dramas. Yes, hopefully the updates or new app, whichever, will get repair soon. Good luck to the working team!
