On the Roku, the dots relate to bit rates, not resolution. 4 dots usually means 1080p, but could also be 720p.

As an example, Revision3 content typically gives 4 dots (but no "HD" indicator), but is only 720p.

Given that the low end Roku units (like the Roku LT and HD models in the current models) only go up to 720p, I have my doubts about CR providing a 1080p for it.

In other interesting discoveries, it really seems to make a huge difference whether I use wireless vs an actual hard-connected cat-5 cable (Roku 3 in this case). I was getting stalls, delayed program startups taking up to a couple minutes, buffering several times in the middle of episodes, and only one dot of resolution, even with a Dual-band N+ (three-antenna) router which the Roku 3 can use in dual mode.

After running a cable and plugging directly in, all those problems went away completely for me. Two dots (current maximum) always, only a couple seconds to load a show, never a stutter or buffer problem since... {knock wood though, just in case I'm jinxing myself here} I can replicate the issue, and get rid of it again, simply by switching back and forth.

I wasn't having those issues with any other streaming service using the wireless connection (well, except Funimation, perhaps). Still don't understand why, but none of that matters now. CR is working correctly when it's hard-wired for me. Can't wait for the 720 app to show up.

You may very well be correct about the new app streaming only up to 720p but I'm not sure I agree with your reasoning since the older AppleTV models also max out at 720p yet the new Crunchyroll AppleTV app does steam 1080p. Thus, it seems it is at least possible for Crunchyroll to program their app around the hardware limitations of older devices without limiting the capabilities of newer devices.

I note the Roku service is currently undergoing maintenance (as mentioned on their website), so if we are lucky, the updated CR app will be added during this time.

EDIT: I checked again after the maintenance was complete, and the CR app still appears to be the same version.

What?!? The new Roku app's coming soon! :D :D
I'm really really really happy about this since I wanted HD plus I noticed the Roku was slow for some time...

Maybe the new app will make me become a premium member again since I'm waiting to save money for membership again... xD I can't wait to resubscribe and watch Attack on Titan and Love Lab with 4 dots! :D

Hopefully it comes before the OVAs for Oriemo 2 are gone...

What no update yet? Wonder why it is taking so long heh. Wish they would get the roku update done. I haven't used my roku for cr for months.. had to grab a new panasonic media player.. which works awesome btw heh. It would be so nice to be able to use both.

The update has been done for close to 2 weeks, and is simply waiting for Roku to approve it and push it out.

I have very good feeling that the app should launch this week.
If not, then something has seriously gone wrong.

Most likely on Tuesday or Wednesday since those are the days they send newsletters

Well, it's now been three weeks so hopefully we hear something today. I'm kinda thinking Roku staff must have found some issues with the new app. But, then again, I have no idea how long Roku's app approval process usually takes so maybe this is perfectly normal. Either way, I'd be nice to hear an update from Bjaker even if its just "sorry guys, it's gonna take us a few more days/weeks/months/whenever."

I guess Roku has rejected the update. Still shows version 1.3 back from Oct 5, 2012.

How long did the 1.3 update take to get approved? Might help determine how long Roku will sit on it.
