Maybe it's to do with being in the UK and how the CDNs work, but I found that by the time my Roku actually started to show the episode (and often at the lowest visual setting), I would have saved time by just leaving the bedroom TV switch off, moving to the lounge and firing up the games console's app.

I agree that people frequently experience a "placebo effect" when they a told in advance that something they are experiencing is of high or low quality. However, I watched HD Crunchyroll for the first time on an old AppleTV without knowing it was higher resolution than my Roku and I immediately noticed the difference. That older AppleTV only did 720p so I'm very excited to see how 1080p looks. (assuming network traffic doesn't keep me at a lower quality as is almost always the case with Netflix despite a 12 Mbps connection)

I know I notice the difference. Heck, if an usually tell when the stream has adapted to the next level down as everything gets a tiny bit fuzzier.

Although, the subtitles also growing mid-sentence isa. teensy bit of a clue...

Haha, I've never noticed the subtitle size changing. Is that something you experience on Netflix or CR? If CR, then I assume CR does the dynamic stream quality adjusting (like Netflix) on its newer HD apps?

I don't use Netflix. But i've noticed it on the Xbox, PS3 and Roku apps. And I think, maybe, on the iOS app, too. I think they hardcode the subs in at a set font size. At a higher res, though, it is smaller. So you'll tend to see the font size and image quality rise and fall at the same time.

Wow, that is very interesting, thanks for the info. Since I only watch on my Roku and my Internet connection is decent, my CR streaming quality never changes and instead stays at 480p. Does the subtitle size decrease dramatically with the increased resolution? My vision is not that great so I'm always concerned about anything that would make the subs harder to read (especially when sitting across the room from my TV)

It's not really a dramatic change. It's only really noticeable if it happens mid-sentence or with back-to-back conversation. You'll suddenly get a very slightly change in subtitle size. And it's probably only really noticeable because there's an equally small difference in picture quality at the same time. Either one would probably be overlooked on its own, but together they call attention to the chance.

Oh, that's a relief to hear, thanks for the info!

I'm starting to get a bit nervious since its gotten all quiet again regarding the new app. Maybe Roku's testing is just taking longer than expected but it's starting to feel a lot like the last couple of times the new versions of the app were returned to the drawing board. Hopefully I'm just being overly pessimistic.

CR Quality has went down to 1 dot. It keeps stopping and reloading! Are they having trouble with the streaming? I use ROKU, and this it getting boring! Does anyone know what is happening?

I have 3 ROKU and all of them have the same problem with CR!

Well, the new app has been submitted to Roku, so we have to wait for the new app.
I've only had one problem this week and it was yesterday, when Samurai Flamenco exited on me. And some times I get a "There are no videos avaiable" even though there were videos or something about the servers?

Just wait for the new HD app like I am and we should be fine (pray for it to come in the next/this-coming week!)

Well, since it was on sale for $90 with a 90 day return window at Target, I broke down and bought an Apple TV. Gotta say that I'm pretty impressed with it. I haven't had issues with Roku loading or buffering videos in a long time but I was wanting HD Crunchyroll and Apple TV definitely delivers. Also, Netflix is actually consistently streaming in HD as well now too (Roku was giving me fuzzy SD quality much of the time). Lastly, you can control the size, color and other variables of the Netflix subtitles within the Apple TV itself which is great for me since I had a lot of trouble seeing/reading the standard Netflix subtitle format.

It's not all perfect though as I'm not in love with the UI of the Netflix and Crunchyroll apps. Also, the Crunchyroll app does not give you any indication of where you are in the video when you are fast forwarding or rewinding. All you get is a black screen with the progress bar at the bottom so it leaves you guessing how far forward or back you have to go to find a certain scene.

I may still return it if the new CR Roku app comes out or if a new Apple TV is released in the near future but I'll be enjoying HD content in the mean time

The buffering time has gotten horrible for me on my roku. It's to the point where my screen saver for the roku kicks in before the buffering is even complete at 1 dot quality, yet if i were to switch to netflix, or any other streaming, i dont get nearly the buffering. I have been paying for crunchyroll for over a year and a half and the quality is horrid right now.

Yeah... For a while, my Roku has been slow and the max dot I could get was 1, instead of the usual 2. It makes me feel like I'm a free member with the Roku... But I'm putting up with it since I know you guys are going to make it the best you can (hopefully). I don't want to use the PS3 app because I feel like it worse than the Roku.
