Hey guys I'm starting this topic to discuss you views on Funimation. I love almost all the anime that they do and have produced (E.g DBZ and Fullmetal Alchemist) and you think that I would be best butt buddies with them for life and would always defend them.

Wrong, they are just as bad as Microsoft when it comes to their fans. They are always charging full price for their products; and make it so that no other company can use their product to have any kind of income, for example here on Crunchyroll. And to make matters worse where they stream these episodes for Free on their website, us over here in Europe can't even watch it because it's limited to NA only, it's complete bullshit.

Thanks for listening,

Murgurbo/Steve

I notice that you're from England.

There are lots of places you can buy items at discounted price:

play.com
amazon
ebay
anime-on-line.com
UP1

Funimation also has a lot of series in their S.A.V.E edition which are all <£15 a set, dirt cheap for a series if you ask me. Although they are R1 format you can easily get a multiregion player for around 30 quid.

Funimation can run their company however they want, but they also have to abide by their licensing contracts. Don't blame Funi for not licensing for your area, blame one of your local companies. It costs $$$ for the streaming and distribution contracts.

They aren't evil. My major complaint is their site is pretty crappy.

Only a few FUNimation (dubbed) anime is free on their site. All subbed episodes are free though.

As for price (speaking from an American point of view) FUNimation is the cheapest of them all and they offer DVD/BD combo packs foe most of their anime which is an even better value. Examoles

Blue Exorcist First Season DVD (eps 1-12) by Aniplex - $69 via RightStuf
Inu Yasha: The Final Act DVD set 1 (eps 1-12) by Viz - $40 via RightStuf
Bodacious Space Pirates DVD Collection 1 (eps 1-13) by Sentai Film works - $45
High School DxD DVD/BD combo Limited Edition (eps 1-12) by FUNimation - $42

It a popular thing on anime sites to hate FUNimation by you are totally wrong.

My beef with FUNimation is that cast the same people in the lead roles all the time leading to all of their anime sounding the same.

My only problem with them is that they won't even release subbed episodes of Detective Conan, yet latch only their license so no one else can sub it either. Other then that, don't really care one way or another about them.

It is just good business. The first underlying rule of a business is make money, the superficial and always thrown around rule of a business is, "our customers matter."

A business always follows the underlying rules but may or may not the superficial.

These are also my beefs with Funimation.

The complaints of the original poster largely seem to be those of someone who does not understand how business works. As has been pointed out, the reason Funimation, Crunchyroll, or any other streaming site can not legally stream shows worldwide is due to the licensing agreements they have with the studios.

And, as others have pointed out, the DVDs Funimation releases tend to be the cheapest of any of the anime DVDs.

I just miss the way Funimation use to be on Youtube when they had full seres' dubbed and subbed available for free with ads. Then god knows what happend but they then blocked the majority in UK. Although I do believe they still have some older subbed content still available like the original FMA with all episodes subbed.
Also Funi do have a bad habit of using the same 3 voice actors for everything but recently they've been getting better and trying to bring in new talent.

I agree. Plus, when they have perfect people for certain roles(Ex: Yuno from Mirai Nikki), they don't use them and choose someone else. They need to learn how to watch the subbed version and try to come up with similar voices...

Each year, they cast around three or more talents that aren't one of their regulars or already exposed in the dubbing scene (ie newcomers) and some are put in the lead roles. They have auditions for each voice. Of course, they are going to pick someone they're familiar with (and, arguably, someone with a lot of experience in the dubbing industry) which is usually one of their regulars. It's always going to happen, but they also cast new talent. It's all up to the casting director, really.

Look at Highschool DxD for a recent example of this, or Haganai.

v Imports?

If i could pay 5 quid/month for access to their online back catalogue I would. SEems they dont want my money though, even worse most of the stuff they get doesnt ever get released here so there is literally no legal way to get as so much anime. Kinda funny

i like funimation and i can say a few things:
1. they don't always use the same 3 voice actors for everything(they just get who they can get)
2. their pricing is very good
3. they are updating the website(i think)...
4. their dubs are really good

I dislike their subs, they try too hard to localize them.
