"A rose can never become a lilac."

Everyone bow down to the mother of shojo manga ~ ! The Rose of Versailles was one of the first anime focused towards the female audience. You must understand, without this manga/anime all of our precious shoujo manga/anime wouldn’t exist.

Premium Members can watch all 40 episodes of The Rose of Versailles RIGHT NOW.
For free members, 8 episodes will be released weekly on Thursdays at 5:00 pm Pacific Time for Crunchyroll audiences in the US and Canada only.

The Rose of Versailles / La Rose de Versailles also known as 'Lady Oscar', is one of the best-known titles in shōjo manga and a media franchise created by Riyoko Ikeda.

Don't worry, Marie Antionette, we're excited too.

The series focuses on Oscar François de Jarjayes, a girl raised as a man to become her father's successor as leader of the Palace Guards. A brilliant combatant with a strong sense of justice, Oscar is proud of the life she leads, but becomes torn between class loyalty and her desire to help the impoverished as revolution brews among the oppressed lower class. Also important to the story are her conflicting desires to live life as both a militiant and a regular woman as well as her relationships with Marie Antoinette, Count Axel von Fersen, and servant and best friend André Grandier.

Hmm, interesting.

Some of my friends really enjoy this series so I might give it a shot. Nice to see CR get it though!

I'll enjoy checking this out, but while your adding classic shoujo anime to your catalog CR, why not add Revolutionary Girl Utena

Watched this on Viki, but the subs were horrible so I'll be re-watching it here.

This is the original one from 1979 and 1980.

I wonder if we will get other TMS properties from back then?

I'd love to see Onegai! Samia-don, as I was a huge fan of "Five Children and It" when I was a kid.

Maybe Cat's Eye? God Mars?

I'm loving that some of us ancient anime fans are getting stuff from back in the day.

I already got the Nozomi release of the series, but think this is great news. I'm glad it will be exposed to more fans. I'd love to see CR pick up more classic titles.

Right Stuf/Nozomi only had those rights to offer to Crunchyroll.

Added this classic anime to my queue. Thanks so very much Nozomi Entertainment!
