The UK got Little Witch Academia and both seasons of Kaiji so never is an exageration but unfortunately for most back catalog things Crunchyroll has to go through North American companies who only have North American rights. Now if CR could find a way to get the stuff licensed in the UK through Manga UK or MVM to get expanded rights, that would be a good thing. #MangaUKonCrunchyroll or as an example "Hey @MangaUK, how about some #PMMMonCrunchyrollinUK". (Of course since Rose of Versailles is not licensed by anyone in the UK, that method wouldn't work).

You know, I never really thought about it, but I'm the same way. For me personally I think it's the fact that I want to get the most out of the monthly fee I'm paying on the site that makes me want to watch it more than the DVDs and Blu-rays I have laying around the house, because I could watch those anytime, but who knows when I might stop using Crunchyroll (or any other streaming service).

I watched this a long time ago. I was absolutely entranced by it. At first I thought the older graphics were going to be off putting for me, but it didn't matter at all. Glad to see Crunchyroll will have this lovely anime.

On the other hand, since you can't watch the back catalog titles put up by North American licensees, none of your money goes into the royalties for the back catalog titles put up by North American licensees.

Its like any buyer cooperative ... the co-op with a larger number of members gets better deals than the co-op with fewer members.

That's especially the case in UK and all the other individual markets in the EU made up of individual countries or small groups of countries. Since you have a much smaller streaming market, a fair market price per streaming episode to the UK is higher than a fair market price per streaming episode to the US. If you could get your act together and make the "European Union" a reality for streaming video rights, that would make it much easier for Crunchyroll to get all-EU rights.

But I agree ~ after setting a fair small-market streaming subscription at 13 pounds, the slightly smaller simulcast lineup and limited back catalog would justify trimming that back to 10 pounds.

Thing is its a catch22 really. We have few subscribers in the UK because the subscriber service we get is expensive for what it is, so people get used to relying on piracy which then makes those consumers feel that the paid option, when its there, is a lower quality product. In many regards I can see where they're coming from, there are plenty of sub groups out there who can get an equally high quality product (translation and resolution) out for popular anime even before CR can. I realise thats not something they can do anything about but when you have such a free service to compete with its not surprising piracy rates for anime are so high. Piracy is a service problem, and the service we are offered is lackluster at best. Even in terms of DVD releases we get little, get it expensive and get it late.

As a result, yes, I result to watching things illegally because there is simply no other option. I am a CR subscriber and I do buy things when I can (IE when they're actually released here, if ever) but theres just not alot I can do. Im tempted to just buy a region free DVD drive for my PC and import (or even get friends to post over) DVDs from 'murrica.

Yeah! It'd be cool if CR could get more oldies like Gunbuster, Burn Up series, Dirty Pair series, Cat Girl Nuku Nuku series (so funny!), and the whole You're Under Arrest series.
