Ryūtarō Nakamura, the Director of acclaimed animated series Serial Experiments Lain and other works including, but not limited to, Ghost Hound and Kino's Journey, has passed due to Pancreatic Cancer. As tribute, commemoration and admiration, I'd like to ask the community to describe how his life's successes have influenced you and your view on the psychological aspect of Anime.

His contributes introduced a concept and ideology that otherwise would have never been recognized in animated cinema. Whether it be symbolic religion, the human condition or mankind's cyber-advancement, Nakamura's vision has structured what we now know today as a "mind fuck"; giving genuine, fearful meaning to the term.

A Narrative. A Visionary.

A Tempest; embodied.

A psychological Architect.

Ryūtarō Nakamura, I will remember you. Because I've learned:

"If you aren't remembered, then you never existed." - Serial Experiments Lain

Rest well, old friend.

Nakamura-san

Serial Experiments Lain is the cornerstone of my anime collection; it was the first anime I purchased, and it challenged reality in ways that are still difficult for me to fathom. Nakamura's execution of such a difficult task was incredible.

I actually haven't seen Kino's Journey yet; I'll probably set some time aside for that this weekend in memory.

Definitely makes me sad. It is one of those anime that I'll happily rewatch and still enjoy. I think it still holds up very well for a show that just turned 13.

Lain is definitely one of the most intellectual, mindblowing anime I have ever seen. It's too bad that the mind that came up with that and Kino's Journey will never make any more series on that level. It's been said that Lain represented the human mind, and boy did it ever make you think. See you in the wired.

Didn't like that anime though.
The best thing about it was Lain in that bear custome thing.

Ghost Hound is definitely one of my favorite anime shows, I've been putting off watching Lain for too long. I wasn't aware that the 2 shows were related in that way. Since I loved Ghost Hound so much I'll definitely make it a priority to see Lain.
