I've been able to play crunchyroll videos on my tv through chromecast and the quality is perfect. The problem is that the subtitles don't show up, so if you know almost no Japanese as I do, you're in bad luck. Also, when streaming crunchyroll through chromecast, make the video full screen on your computer and its awesome.

I assume you are casting the tab from the the Chrome web browser on your computer. If so, I don't know why the subtitles would go MIA, as that feature is supposed to perform a screen grab, compress the video using VP8, and then shoot it to the Chromecast.

I would love chromecast support in the Android app. I do currently use the cast functionality via the browser, and while it works its very clunky. No to mention rather annoying to have to get up every 25 minutes, walk to the desk, turn monitor on, full screen the next episode, turn monitor off and flop back on to the sofa.

I do realise though, that at the moment Google are being selective about who is allowed to cast. Hopefully they will relax that soon and we can finally cast Crunchyroll from our phones and tablets. One can always dream right? :D

Edit:
I just wanted to post an edit to say subtitles have always worked for me when casting from the browser - ever since chromecast was first available.

I too will throw in my vote for chromecast in the app. I am getting one of these very soon, and we use the ipad for a lot of crunchyroll viewing, would love to do this on the tv and not have to use the browser. It would also allow me to do it from my android phone, as I simply don't like watching it on such a small screen.

After messing with it for a little, I was able to get the subtitles to show up. I'm not sure why they hadn't in the first place, but all is good now. Thanks for the advice haha

When you add native support PLEASE make it so subtitles can be toggled off (they can't be on PS3, iOS, etc.). Although reading the posts above it sounds like this "feature" I want is kind of supported now ;-p

A Chromecast app would most likely inherit the stream for Android, and thus have the same limitations (such as hard coded subtitles).
