For the last two years now, ants seem to be a huge nuisance. Everyone I have talked to about this says, "OMGosh I know what you mean, I have a problem with them too!".
We can't leave anything out for more than a few minutes downstairs or it will be crawling with tiny black sugar ants. And I think they bite because I am always constantly itching (either that or I am just creeped out and think they are crawling on me!).
We have tried spray and ant traps. We kill thousands in an area and they are back again within minutes.
I can't say I am the neatest home on the block, but in no way am I filthy either. There may be some dirty dishes in the sink now and again, but we have no other bug/varmint problems.
I even thought it might be the pet food, but I have moved the pet food upstairs now and there are no ants up there. Just downstairs in the kitchen and living room.

Is it just a bad year for them (sort of like the ladybug epidemic about 7 years ago) where you just have to deal and eventually they will dwindle down again?

Is anyone else having issues with ants too? And if so, how are you dealing with it?

I live in florida and we have quite a few ants down here. For dealing with the small black sugar ants (which don't bite btw) I have found the best solution is a mixture of the traps and spray. First make sure to spray the outside of your house all the way around the perimeter and around any windows and doors. Don't forget the tops and sides of any opening. Then do the same thing inside of any window or doorway. For me, the biggest problem area has been in the kitchen so I spray around the perimeter of that as well. I also set out a few small ant traps in areas I have problems with them. It has seemed to work pretty well.

I usually have an ant problem every summer. I've learn that it's mostly ant "control" instead pretending I can kill every ant within a 10-mile radius. So, to control the ants around and in my house I use:

- Fire. (outside only obviously)
- Various ant poisons, traps, etc. (careful not to use them were pets or other woodland creatures might roam)

Inside, the "ant hotels" work well. They chow down, carry said poison back to the nest, and ant zombies are created which die off fairly quickly thus leaving micro ant corpses in my walls.

Ugh ants. A few I don't mind, but when there are lots...

I don't have any answers for you, but I'm closing this thread because creating personal/help threads is against the rules (see 8.2 under the extended rules under the spoiler section there).

That doesn't mean you can't ask the question though, or get advice. Simply copy what you wrote over to a new post in The General Help/ Advice Thread (for future reference, you can find that as a "sticky" thread near the top of the General Discussion forum).
