Hi, my free 2 week trial is about to end in a few days so I am planning on purchasing the Anime Membership when it expires. Since it is my first time buying membership, I have one question to ask. Will I need to pay an additional fee/tax when purchasing membership, or it is exactly $6.95? Also, is the activation of the membership instant?

It comes up as exactly $6.95 on one of my old bank statements.

Because you are on the anime trial, as soon as the 2 weeks ends, it will charge you the $6.95 and your premium will remain active. There won't be any interruption. Also, there aren't any additional fees. Your account will be charged automatically starting at the end of the trial, so there is no need for you to do anything else except enjoy watching your anime. I am glad you enjoy the service.

If the subscriber is a California resident, wouldn't CR be required to collect sales tax?

That's odd. Does California except online services from sales tax?

The reason I ask is that due to the fact they have a DVD distribution center in my state, Netflix is required to collect sales tax for my online streaming subscription.

I live in California and CR does not charge me tax. Company's do not always have to charge tax even online purchases normally do not charge tax, but of course that depends on the site.

Also Netflix as far as I can tell do not charge tax either although we only get the streaming service not the DVD service as that costs too much, I don't even watch Netflix anymore as their anime line up is horrible and all they have are dubbed series which I am not interested in (Subbed or get the hell out).

eBay does not charge tax it does not work like Amazon or other sites. Please place spoiler tags on chain quotes.

There is nothing physical about streaming period.

Retracting some of what I said and editing according to your request. I apologize to some of the confusion and mess.
(I missed crunchyroll's store, physical, in-state tax policy. That's the part that I retracted. That's what I apologize for.)
(I misread the topic and felt that I went out of topic for a bit. Sorry. I sent a PM on that last topic about eBay.)

Let me try to be more coherent then.

There's no tax on streaming services like crunchyroll and Netflix in California, but that can be different with states with different telecommunication tax laws and such in place for it like Texas or Washington State. To add, the digital goods and services might be used interchangably in those states.

Now I am kind of interested if there is a tax being implemented in other states with the crunchyroll streaming.

I purchased Mugen Souls via eBay and was not charged tax when buying from eBay since most on there are normal people and not company's they never charge tax.

I should also note that I also have only the Netflix streaming service. It seems clear at this point that California doesn't charge tax for online services, whereas mine does.

Since I doubt that CR has any physical presence in another state, that should settle the original question for this topic.

I was under the assumption that CR is providing a intangible service so its exempt of sales tax. In KY when getting your taxes done, they ask you if you've made any purchases online that you didn't pay taxes on and if you say yes, they take a very small amount out of your tax return to safeguard you from legalities should it ever fall back on you. Not that it particularly matters since I doubt this is really a taxable service.
