While I do enjoy watching anime with others, I prefer to watch anime alone. Not because it's embarrassing, but because I want to experience it without distractions or opinions of others. You'll be surprised how much someone else's opinion can influence your own in a negative way.

I prefer alone! I don't like to explain the drama of the anime or something

What's worse is when you have to explain how it's not cheesy. No no, just wait... In 20 episodes it's totally going to get good! *friend walks out* Come on, man! Anime is awesome. *door closes* I didn't wanna watch it with you anyway! *car drives off* You know what, I don't have to justify myself to you!

I agree, alone is better! I can smoke some hashish and get into it!
Then if someone comes over I can ask them if they want to watch it...

Alone, I can focus more on the plot and fanboy by myself without having to listen to them talking or having to pause it because one of us needs to do something.

If it's my first time watching it definitely alone. Love discussing afterwards though. If I've already seen it before then I don't mind watching it with someone else.

It's best to watch with people whose opinion I trust and respect + a heated discussion after each episode ^^

I do agree that some shows should only be watched when you're alone, in the dead of night, though

I've always watched anime alone, and well, wouldn't mind watching it with others. But I prefer alone, as I like to think a lot and I do a lot of analysis.

I enjoy watching anime with my wife and by myself. I think it would depend on the anime if I would enjoy watching it in a group. A comedy like Excel Saga may actually work better in a group, but I think a more serious or dark anime would suffer in a group.

My first time watching a show, I prefer to watch alone. But if the show is good and I think my anime fan friend would like it, I'll rewatch it with her afterwords.
There's actually been a couple shows I rewatched with my parents afterwords too (Moribito and Bunny Drop, they loved both).

Plus, I guess I ultimately prefer alone... because I'm not gonna lie. I cry a lot during anime and I'm sure I look completely ridiculous as a grown man, holding a box of tissues. So yah, I'm gonna change my answer to alone. With the blinds shut. In the dark.

I prefer to watch anime with my twin. It makes the experience that much more exciting.
