I think true love is when someone values something as much, or more than, their own life. This can take many forms as long as the need to care for the object of one's love is there.

Is love required for happiness? Absolutely not. Finding love is one way to gain happiness, but there are plenty of other things that can make a person happy.

"Definition: 'Love' is making a shot to the knees of a target 120 kilometers away using an Aratech sniper rifle with a tri-light scope... Love is knowing your target, putting them in your targeting reticule, and together, achieving a singular purpose against statistically long odds." HK-47

Well played

It's obviously a very popular 90s song.

No but seriously it's convoluted and awkward. Taking what you think is normal and realizing that it is beyond reason for other people.

Happiness exists without love. You don't have to tell me to fall in love with something to be happy. I'm already happy. Love just makes it better. The same is inversely true. You can tell me to be happy because I do have something I love. Just because I'm not happy doesn't mean I still won't love what it is. Being happy just happens to make it more rewarding.

It's a little annoying to see these little kids comment so negatively on something they haven't truly experienced yet. However this is the internet.
What true love for me is looking back at the lost relationship, after the dust has settled/hearts have truly healed, and not regretting the time invested with that person.
Romantic love isnt necessary for happiness. However, cpblair83 nailed it on the head with cultural pressure. I don't know how the rest of the world is, but America puts a lot of stress on the importance of getting married and having kids. Not by the government, but more previous generations and even friends/acquaintances who are in relationships.
I think love in the form of passion is necessary for happiness. That is to say a love (passion) for your hobby, or an area you are studying in school.
That's how i feel about the subject

Baby don't hurt me, don't hurt me. No more.

That's already been used.

Anyway!

To me, there are multiple feelings for love. Love is something you share among family, friends, and even that special someone. With friends and family, it's kind of the same. If you're a close friend, I look at you like you're a loved relative. As for the love that's on everyone's mind here, I've only experienced infatuation. I've never really enjoyed dating because I'd lose interest in the person I was with.

Love is a word. It is formed by arranging the letters L, O, V, and E in that order. What meaning it holds is purely subjective and should never be measured upon the standards set forth by others.

To me, love =/= romance. I feel love for my family, my friends, my significant other, my hobbies, my possessions, and hopefully I'll feel this love for a career. If I didn't have ANY of these, I don't know if I would want to live. My love for them brings me joy and happiness. To me, it is necessary. This "love" makes the negative in life a bit more bearable.

But if OP specifically had romantic love in mind, then it's when you're able to talk about BM freely without getting embarrassed.

Well, there's different kinds of love, all of which feel very different.
-Love for family
-Love for friends
-Romantic love
-Love for an activity/hobby (a passion)

Note that I don't deem physical attraction to be any kind of love. Romance and attraction are completely separate to me.

Ultimately, love is something imprinted in us to protect our bloodline. We feel love for a woman that might carry our child. We feel love for family that have our DNA. We feel love for friends that our subconscious mind either mistakes for family, or deems them a valuable person to keep around.

Everything comes down to reproduction, though that doesn't make it any less real.

But what if I'm a girl who digs other girls?
No reproduction going on there. (sadly)

Then consider yourself lucky. The act of reproduction without any reproducing!

It's like going skydiving without the risk of death. Okay,... death = children might be a stretch, but it isn't far off.
