Hi all! This thread is part genuine curiosity and part shameless plug of a game I was lucky enough to beta for. We love anime, and a lot of us like tabletop games, but are there any anime tabletop crossovers out there?

The one I was invited to play-test is the first of it's kind I've seen. The creator built a well-rounded, enjoyable game with minimally difficult mechanics, built specifically to mimic slice of life/giant robot anime such as Macross, Evangelion, and Full Metal Panic. It's on good track to succeed in its kickstarter campaign, with 4 days left to go. I think Russell, the creator, describes the game better than I can, but I'll say that it was extremely fun to play and had an impressive balance of student-life drama, high-concept intrigue, and good old fashioned giant robot smashing.

If others are interested, here is a link to the kickstarter, including gameplay and character creation demos and the opportunity to help bring this game to life. I like seeing creative people who take the time to generate content like this succeed.

If you know of other anime-themed tabletop games, please let us all know!

Sounds pretty nifty but I've already backed Chroma Squad on Kickstarter. I hope the target is reached though it would be a good table top rpg

There's Tanto Cuore. It's a house-maid anime tabletop deck building game.

There's pokemon tabletop adventures, I played it with my D&D group once, and it was okay. A ton of work for the GM though, setting up all the NPC trainers and their pokemon's stats every game.

Just as an aside, there is already a anime inspired tabletop pen and paper RPG system.

Best of luck to your kickstarter regardless.

Well depending on the Anime style you want to play I'd just use one of the main game systems out there. If you're wanting something like "Ghost in the Shell" I'd recommend a system like Cyberpunk2020 its a d10 based combat system that is fast. You've got all kinds of cybernetics and even net runners you'd have to adapt the base world some since its based on a wasteland style world but the core engine of it would adapt nicely. The catch being there are no levels in the system instead you get Improvement points. However if you're wanting to run a bit of everything where there is magic, tech, monsters from other dimensions etc. Then I'd recommend RIFTS as much as I hate the system it uses there is absolutely no real sense of "Balance" when it comes to power levels of characters. I've literally seen Vagabonds in a party with Great Horn Dragons and Fairies running around with Glitter Boys (Big Mecha). The D20 Modern books can be adapted nicely to fit an anime inspired campaign. And I've played with DM's that ran Anime Style Dungeons and Dragons style campaigns. You know all this talk of anime inspired PnP Rpgs has me kinda wanting to see a Black Bullet type campaign or even a Brynhildr in the Darkness setting both could be fun... well I might have just found a side project to work on. Anyways good luck on the kick starter.

Because it's a pain in the ass that's why. If you want a good anime based turn based rpg and are in the mood for steam punk feudal japan, I recommend Tenra Bansho Zero http://www.tenra-rpg.com/

Sort of self promoting my current three anime based titles

Naruto RPG

One Piece RPG

Fairy Tail RPG

Updates on these titles are also seen in my blog and currently while I am updating the current games I am working on creating an original system away from the d20 system
