As I haven't seen an official annoucement from CR at the moment, I thought I would go ahead and post this. A new version of the Android app is now available:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.crunchyroll.crunchyroid

Before anyone gets too excited, no, there is no HD yet.

The changelog lists the revisions as "Mid-roll ad support for additional devices" and "Bugfixes".

Although it isn't listed in the changelog, it apparently also has a new UI.

Update is alright. Still need that HD tho. It does not have a New UI. The UI has been there for several months now

Personally I could have done without the new ad slots, the in-house ones are incredibly obnoxious lol

The only difference I see is ad's for non premium users. Which is fine and all, since that's how they make a lot of their money but It wold be nice to see some improvements to the app and not just their income.

I'll stick to the website, unlike Apple devices we still got flash support.

Nexus 7 (1st Gen) - 4.3
Razr Maxx HD - 4.2
CR App version 0.7.11

Error messages
"There was a problem loading your queue. Please try again, or contract support if the problem persists"
"There was a problem loading your history. Please try again, or contract support if the problem persists"

The following steps have been taken with no effect.
Closing app and restarting
Shut off device and restart.
Deleting CR app and reinstall.
Reinitialize entire device wiping all data and not restoring saved profiles then installing CR app.

App also fails to adjust to orientation of device. Video won't play in horizontal (wide screen) orientation. I only get a small video squeezed under vertical orientation only. This happen more often on the Nexus 7 but continues to happen on both devices.

Two devices with the same problems with the app so it must be the app.
Is this why the CR app was so poorly written that it is still in beta? Why else would it have not reached version 1.0 yet?

The good news is that CR's new Android developer (not the same one that wrote the current app) is reportedly very good. Given that I haven't seen any complaints about the OUYA app yet, I would take that as a good sign. If the next version of the Google TV app (apparently up next) is similarly blessed, the new version of the general Android app will no doubt be worth the wait.

Only if you have a really old Android device. Android 4.2 and newer don't support flash (and the last known Flash designed for 4.0 that happened to work on 4.1 if you side-loaded it doesn't work on 4.2 and up)

I'm hoping so as well. And hopefully the new developer is syncing up the common parts of the code as well so that apart from the platform-specific stuff the various Android variants can all be released together in the future once he gets them synced up. Since they're all Android under the hood it should be possible to make them all the same app and just have conditionals in the code for "which platform am I running on" to decide which platform-specific things to do.

WRONG!!!

It still works all the way upto 4.3, It's not officially supported but does work with the right browser, I should know I'm using a Nexus 5 right now and using puffin browser for flash content.

4.4 is still new though, allot of browsers need to update.

The latest version of the crunchyroll app version 9.0 does not play videos in landscape mode. It only plays in portrait mode unless you turn on auto rotation on your tablet. I am using the Nexus 7 tablet the 2012 version running KitKat Android 4.4.

Correction I have an older tablet and it also plays videos in portrait mode, unless you turn on auto rotation. It is running android 4.0.4.

Basically, it's working like Android is designed to now. If you have rotate-lock enabled, it won't rotate, because you told it not to. ;-)

On the plus side, it's nice not *having* to rotate my device when going back and forth between watching something and navigating the menus. Having the entire app stay in the same rotation mode while you're using it (unless you actually rotate the screen) is way cool. Landscape mode layouts on the menus is awesome.

I like the crisper menu graphics, too. Makes it all much easier to read.

Kudos to the dev, we're obviously out of "maintenance mode" with the Android app and back into "let's get the cool stuff to the users" mode again. I can't wait to see what's in store!
