Sorry, but no. Gurren Lagaan was good, but it was just a little too cartoony for me to take seriously. Not to mention that the entire series is the literal definition of jumping the shark.

My second favorite mecha is Code Geass, and my favorite, as well as probably my favorite anime overall, is Eureka Seven. Both those shows take themselves a little more seriously and manage to make it work.

is code geass really considered a mecha?

Yes, it has giant human shaped robots that are piloted by people. That's all that's required for a show to be included in the mecha genre. Even if the robots themselves are not the focus of the show, it still counts.

Hah... seriously? Geass was just as ridiculous as TTGL, but for different reasons.

Gundam 00 was amazing - went online an bought it after finishing it immediately. Shame the movies not yet available where i live

But for shear quality i would have to say Gundam Unicorn. The best soundtrack i have ever heard in an anime + good story+ perfect animation = best mecha series ever for me.

Your second poster nails why Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is just absurd whereas the Mecha in Macross is much closer to reality.

Note see the VF-0s in Macross 0. We are close!

What reasons would that be, exactly? I won't deny that CG had it's share of ridiculous moments, but in what way is it more silly than TTGL?

I'm not that into mechas. Code geass, eureka seven, gundam, gurann lagann, ginga majestic prince, valvrave the liberator, evangelion and the list could continue as there are lots of mecha animes...

LOL...seriously?

Best Mecha anime of all time

MACROSS

1) Kick-ass mecha

2) Has MORE than just kick-ass mecha

a) Good characters
b) Good romances
c) QUALITY storylines

3) THE BEST MUSIC IN ANIME!

You sir, are correct. Macross, Macross Zero and Macross Frontier are great shows. I didn't care for Macross 7(mostly because the mech played guitar....wait am I remembering this correctly? That sounds way too stupid to be true...I need to go look this up...)

After Macross, most Gundam series I love, with a few of them being MEH( I'M LOOKING AT YOU G GUNDAM AND WING).

Code Geass, thats been mentioned, great characters and plot, and recently I liked the Valvrave and broken blade stuff, all of which I enjoyed more than GL. =/

You are correct about Macross 7 (Macross 7 has had some hate from even hardcore Macross fans)

You didn't list Macross Plus. You should see it if you haven't.

And for alternate reality/non-cannon Macross II
