It's a horrible idea. Kirito's Gary Stu tendencies and hax plot armor is enough to kill a titan just by throwing a pebble to the knee.

It's already happening.

There is a legion of people devoted to SAO, praising it with every breath! The reasonable portion of the anime populace has to stand up against these titans! The anime world needs to be set free from those that call SAO a masterpiece! The wall of common sense has already been broken, we cannot afford to give up more territory to them! It's time to stand up and exterminate the all!

Attack on SAO

FIGHT!

The only thing I would get out of this Crossover is seeing Kirito and Asuna taking on Titans only to get butchered in a matter of seconds. That's about it.

The only way I could see it made into a reasonable story is if the country(?) featured in Attack on Titan was one of the floors in SAO. You have the numerous titans as your regular enemies, and the goal is to get to the basement where the boss fight is the colossal titan. After the fight, you get to enter the basement, where you unlock a skill that lets you turn into a titan. Maneuver Gear is sold in town, the different factions of AoT's army (Garrison, Survey Corps, Military Police) could be treated as guilds (as a minor storyline, perhaps those guilds start to monopolize the maneuver gear, and you can only access it if you join one of those guilds), and taking back cities and land from the titans are minor quests.

Seems pretty decent to me. There's a lot of people saying that it would be a terrible idea, but honestly, it seems like Attack on Titan would fit pretty well into SAO's world. Does anyone have any reason for thinking this is a bad idea besides SAO's bad writing? Because if you're going to assume that the writing is going to be the same quality as the shows in the crossover, then you need to take into account AoT's writing. And if you, you know, judge the idea based on the merits of the actual idea, then it seems like Attack on Titan would be a good match. This idea is not as stupid as ya'll assume it to be. Has anyone actually thought about their answer before typing it, or do you pretty much decide on a show's quality before giving it a chance? I haven't seen any good reasons for throwing away this idea -- isn't SAO's bad writing kind of irrelevant if you're writing a new story?

Edit: Does anyone have any good reason why this would be a bad idea? I understand why you would hear "SAO crossover with [blank]" and immediately just assume it's going to be shit, but is there a thinking person out there that can explain why it would be shit? I can't understand otherwise. I can see why attaching something like Gun Gale or Alfheim would be a terrible idea (Guns, elves, and wings don't remotely fit with AoT), but Attack on Titan seems pretty well matched with an RPG like Sword Art Online.

Out of everyone present, the main protagonists saved the day with help from secondary protags (Eren blocking the hole with the bolder after Armin woke him up, Kirito defeating Heathcliff with Asuna's encouragement)

Both Female protags have the main protag in their minds (At least Asuna can think of another person as well)

Both Dual wield (Before one of them gets the powerup)

Both "died" and came back after having outside support (Unknown injection/Asuna)

Probably missing more but I'm tired.

It's not like AoT doesn't have guns too. They're just outdated and useless when used for any other purpose other than to blind the titans momentarily.

Heh. Clever. However, it is overrated, but that doesn't mean it isn't decent. Heck, Sword Art Online is one of those really rare cases of anime. Between the people who over-hype it and hate on it, it is both one of the most overrated shows, and one of the most underrated shows.

It is not that bad. There are A LOT worse series out there even in its own genre. The series was botched because of pacing issues and a lack of focus on what should have actually been covered in the series. They took WAY too much from the light novels and tried to tell the same story, and it ended up screwed up. The novels are actually pretty damn good. The anime is good, but has A LOT of holes from both rushing the important stuff, and shoving in the extra stories into the show for some reason.

I agree it's not bad. I'm in the middle when it comes to my actual opinion on the series. SAO isn't as good or bad as everyone seems to think. It is hilarious seeing so many people overreact in either a positive of negative way though.

Everyone seems to be dismissing this because they think SAO sucks. SAO is an average anime, but honestly so is AoT. If anything, AoT is more overrated than SAO (yes I watched SAO all the way through and I've watched all the episodes put out for AoT so far). The crossover would suck because two average animes that don't mesh well do not make a good crossover

This is a case where there are far too many opinions for this argument to have point. The majority of people who've seen (Myself included) think Attack on Titan is above average, unlike Sword Art Online that has an equal amount of love and hate.

There isn't an equal amount of love and hate for SAO. The haters are just incredibly toxic with this anime for some reason and still haven't let it go after a year. So forums are still getting clogged with posts from the same people.

User ratings for Crunchyroll are still 1513 five stars, 164 four stars, 99 three stars, 30 two stars, and 29 one star reviews. That is pretty darn favorable.

On Anime Planet the anime is still #34 in their rankings out of all anime on the site, which is I believe over 10 thousand. Their demographics are also super favorable with 16,971 users having watched the series, and only about 500 stalled and 500 dropped.\

You could go to any other anime review site and probably find the same thing. Don't let the obnoxious hate spam fool you, this anime is still super popular. And it's not like I love the anime or see no flaws in it. But people have taken things so far out of context at this point it's kind of ridiculous
