I would go with no for immortality. Nothing like being a human - beginning to end. Learning, falling in love, raising children, growing old with loved ones - a once in a life time opportunity.

Isn't that sort of like... the goal of Christianity? I'm surprised there aren't more yeses on here given that the whole reason people are Christians is the promise of being a rather content immortal.

As for me... I think I'd rather not. Even without the whole universe ending, earth being obliterated, imminent eventual universal apocalypse-type assumptions. Even assuming all my friends, family, lovers, etc. could be immortal with me for all of eternity and the earth/universe stays exactly as is -- I reckon I'd get bored after a few hundred years.

Actually, Christianity - Catholicism especially; not sure about the other branches of Christianity off the top of me head - believes in a content spiritually happiness as well as a physical happiness with God in Heaven - total happiness. Not trying to be didactic here, just though I'd let you know

Good point. The thought of having everyone close to you die, and you end up all alone living a life where you have no one to relate to. It's quite frightening

But honestly people have already been dealing with this kind of situation. There are people who lost their entire family and live their life remembering those they loved. With the death of your grandparents, and soon your parents, and everyone else that are related to you, it makes you want to kill yourself, if you feel like you can't live without them. You can't imagine a life without them.

But something I noticed, is that with time, things will get better. Love do not lasts forever, but memories do. So, with time, you will slowly forget them, actually no, you put them at the very bottom of your consciousness, at the very bottom of the iceberg, and you will soon only remember them when something triggers it. But until that something does, you will be experiencing your new life and with a new family, which soon will die before you as well, but until they do, you will be happy for a while.

In conclusion, living an immortal life to me is a series of painful events, and it is up to how you decide to live after those painful events is what makes being immortal a bitter life or a joyous life. If you dwell on the past of the painful events, you will go nowhere and continue to suffer from guilt and loneliness until you forget, but if you can move on, you can experience a new life that has the potential to make up and heal you from the previous life and see what the future holds in store for you.

SIKE!

Depends on the kind of immorality. If my body regenerates, my brain can't be damaged, I can't be cut into small peices locked in boxes then throw in the see, and I can die if I want too when the sun goes super nova, then I get the choice again when the universe is so far spread apart that it takes 30 years for a single photon to travel between the closest particles...

Then I might consider it.

But really, you should ask me again in a billion years.

Nah. The way my personality is, I would get really bored by the time I've done everything I've ever wanted to do and then I'd be ready to die.

Yes. I really don't want to die. I love my life I have, and I know I'll love it in 50 more years when it ends. And If I could live 5000 more years or even 50,000,000 I'd love it, because it's a pile of good and a pile of bad, and even if the pile of good never softens the bad, you can't let the pile of bad taint the pile of good.

I have a dream of one day being able to use technology as a form of immortality. Scanning your brain and "uploading" everything as a digital file. and then downloading your "conscious" in a platform. Robot, android, doll, whatever. A digital immortality is possible, and as close as we'd ever get to achieving godhood.

Sure. I'll spend a bit of it napping, and then eventually I'll seek a way to die again.
