I don't want to be immortal to be honest. You will be stuck in the world forever and you would have to witness future wars, and a whole bunch of other stuff. I don't know if there is any point of living for all eternity...

Interesting, I'd say Yes, but, due to my imagination-

Would I be blessed with the ability to transcend time and space? Or would I be doomed to making the same mistakes over and over, and never being to able to atone for them? Sure I'd have a ton of birthdays and stuff, would I be able to take those things with me, since Death wouldn't affect me? I've read that everyone who's posted before me: They've got their friends and loved ones in the back of their minds. And funerals/homegoings suck. So, where does that leave me? Does my immortality hinder my humanity? I mean, since I won't be able to die, there's no way could be reincarnated as anything. And if the whole universe did suddenly just cease to exist IE: the end of the world, or something unlike Armageddon, Christ's return; Would it make any difference to those who have passed on? So many questions, the kid in me is saying yes, but the grown up in me is saying no.

I don't know, maybe...

It would be a sad and lonely living forever

Maybe if you were someone else, who was immortal, it would be so bad

My friend and I had a couple conversations about this topic. To sum it up, I would like for human life to be extended by means of advancement of medicine or technology, but not immortality. Yeah, when people think of immortality they immediately only think of living forever and not the consequences and implications of having such an inhuman trait. One major point is that eventually you will outlive all of your loved ones and then in the end will be all alone. Just thinking about that is very depressing. There are many other repercussions but that one is the one that stands out to me the most.

You either die a human, or live long enough to see yourself become a monster.

As I am driven by a pursuit of knowledge I wouldn't mind it. I would spend Eons collecting information and building the largest Library in the universe. Of course I wouldn't want to be stuck floating through space for eternity after the earth blows up so I'm not sure how I would handle that.

Only if I had somebody who was also immortal.
But there would also need to be an option to end it if I desire, else I would spend countless years experimenting to find a way to kill myself once humanity is gone.

I would love to be immortal, just think of the endless possibilities. Some people mentioned changing jobs, but you need to think bigger. Say for 50 years you could be a badass vigilante/ super hero. At the end of the 50 years fake your death and become a villain, or maybe a country's leader. Or you could just not do anything and do what you usually do. As for family dying and such, it's something most would be able to get over.

On another note, being immortal like a god or Doctor Who immortal would be cool too.

Living forever sounds nice on paper for those who haven't thought it through properly.

Being immortal wouldn't necessarily prevent things like losing limbs, brain damage, paralysis, burn scars etc, which would suck to deal with for all eternity.

Then of course there's the chance of people finding out, or making dumb mistakes like abusing your powers so being forced to eternity inprisonment or being experimented on.

Then you'd have to worry about the short life span of the human race. We're not here forever, and even if we somehow last billions of years or more which I highly doubt, we will evolve so drastically that being immortal in such a body would be so obsolete and laughed at that you will be left behind. Or what if the planet were destroyed but we never found anywhere else inhabitable? What then? Do you just float in space for a few million years, or perhaps eternity? No doubt going absolutely insane while doing so.

You see on paper it does sound nice, but give it any amount of thought and it's full of as many loopholes and flaws as religion and politics.

I would say that the only way to actually be immortal is if there's an off switch in there somewhere, now it doesn't necessarily have to be a suicide button but maybe a mortality button? Which starts the aging process and being prone to disease and fatal injury etc.

Most people who blindly say "yeah that sounds awesome I want immortality" have probably only lived on this planet 18 years at best, and could no way fathom living hundreds, thousands, if not millions and more, and ultimately I think it would eventually be the biggest curse you could ever have.

You could go to College and earn any degree that interested you now... Being immortal is not a free ticket to stop being lazy. Besides there's actually a limit to the human memory capacity, so enjoy eternity with a limited brain.
