This guy actually likes the idea of being alone on another planet for eternity, not to mention the length of time it would take you to float there for millions of years, assuming you actually had control over the direction you floated in space... Think it through.

Just to sadly watch all my loved ones die off and be super depressed because I'm stuck here for the rest of my life in some boring repetitive cycle... No thank you, I wish to die at an appropriate age surrounded by a loving family to carry on in my place.

I'd like there to be a few immortals who share the same fate where i guess you can find a way to forget those memories of pain and sorrow. but to see the world we live in reach its peak would be really something

If you're immortal then you can wait until space travel doesn't take millions of years... You could fly at the speed of light and it wouldn't matter if there was the doppler effect, you were going to outlive everyone anyway.

You can't have your cake and eat it too...

So, you're assuming that we're going to get the ability to travel at, or close to the speed of light? And even then the nearest closest potentially habitable planets are at least 20 light years away, going on thousands and millions of light years away.

Then of course there's the assumption that people would actually allow you to use these spaceships, as either a pilot or passenger, and even after all that was somehow possible, you still need a habitable colony on those planets otherwise you're still just stuck on your own.

Then of course, as I said before, we've only been this evolved for around 100,000 years, and we don't know when the next stage of evolution or mass extinction is, so assuming it doesn't take hundreds, or thousands more years to get this technology, you're in for a fairly short ride with the human race in general.

I do agree though that the only way to really achieve immortality and not spend eternity alone would be if humans ever gain the technology to inhabit other planets and potentially meet alien species.

There's still plenty of room for error though, for instance if a planet you were on was blown up and you were invulnerable to the damage, there's no guarantee anybody would ever find you floating through space for eternity.

Only if my lover were to be immortal too. If not, there's no point.

Isn't that sort of like... the goal of Christianity? I'm surprised there aren't more yeses on here given that the whole reason people are Christians is the promise of being a rather content immortal.

As for me... I think I'd rather not. Even without the whole universe ending, earth being obliterated, imminent eventual universal apocalypse-type assumptions. Even assuming all my friends, family, lovers, etc. could be immortal with me for all of eternity and the earth/universe stays exactly as is -- I reckon I'd get bored after a few hundred years.

It depends. I'd like eternal life if we stopped aging, but I'd still want to be able to die due to injuries and sickness.
Mainly because if I like the future, I'd like to have the chance to live through it and if it sucks, I'd like to still have the option to just kill myself.

Yes please :] if by Immortal you mean I can't die no matter what happens to me. Aging don't matter to me as long as I can't die I'd be ruler of the world an Undying Dictator of the world >:D

Not really, unless I had a partner to keep me company. It would be really interesting to see how things pan out in the future, but I don't feel that it's worth watching my loved ones die over and over.

as long as i didn't age, i wouldn't want to be a Struldbrug, but if i could remain young than yes, i'd stick around until all matter in the universe disappeared, then i'd just fap or something for the rest of eternity XD
