I just can't get into Gintama. Watched the first couple of episodes, didn't find it as funny as many claim it to be. I'm sure it's a good show - just not my cup of tea.

Only One Piece, for me.

The first couple of episodes are shit. They are actually unfunny filler, almost any Gintama fan would tell you that. I basically dropped it my first time through after 10 minutes of the first episode. Just like One Piece and other shounens, there's a period in the beginning where they introduce the characters, the world, etc. And for Gintama it's around 20 episodes. After that it gets funnier, there's also none of the serious arcs in the beginning, the first one starts around 40.

Starting out as shit and filler and you want me to be a fan... some serious mind games.

I agree with the story, lovable characters, epic fights parts but the music and animation don't impress me much at all. They really don't have to either. Having continually great storylines, special characters and awesome showdowns will keep me and I'm sure countless fans coming back.

I can't really say one is better than the other because while Gintama has the humor to constantly make me laugh and emotion to make me choke up, One Piece's epic scope of adventure, indomitable camaraderie and overarching sense of wonder also blow me away in equal measure.

The same can be said for Hunter x Hunter as well but its not quite in the same class as the other two.

And?
Just because something started out bad doesn't mean
it'll be bad all the way through.

I haven't been able to finished an episode of One Piece since I was twelve. I tried to pick up the first few episodes again, but I just couldn't get back into it. So, I guess to answer your question chrome_mist is that I solely love Gintama

I love One Piece. I want to like Gintama, but I find it average at best. I'm watching it at a very slow pace, so it will take me a long time to catch up. I'm up to episode 21, I don't want to drop it yet, so hopefully later episodes will be enjoyable for me.

Honestly it took me at least 15 episodes to get into watching Gintama (I try to watch anime fully for the sake of being able to legitimately complain about them) but now it's one of my favourite shows. It only gets better and better as you progress through.

That's some creepy gif you have there.

@ topic;

I almost dropped every single anime since late 2009, early 2010 simply because I've got no time except for Gintama and One piece. That's how dedicated I am to these two anime.

Although, I have to admit I love reading manga much more than watching a 24-25 minute anime :[

Hey you're back.
And I didn't know you liked these two.

And I agree I like the One Piece manga more than the anime,
but not for Gintama- the anime is much more enjoyable than the manga.

Budget, this is why i consider any long running anime to be good.
Except for hitman reborn of course.
