Post Reply You are given 1 billion (or okay, just a million maybe) dollars to make an anime. What do you make?

An original one, obviously (with my co-writer, though). The webcomic version is already in the works, and I don't want to give anything away in case it gets off the ground and builds an actual fanbase, but it's essentially an ensemble cast piece set in a city that lies somewhere between 1920s America and steampunk in style, with subtle magical and sci-fi elements and a dose of supernatural horror.

... It's really a lot more cohesive than I make it sound with a short description. Really. x_x

The Wheel of Time series. It's scope is sooo large that only a complete anime adaption would do the books justice.

I'd use it to get the rest of the Moribito novels animated, as well as create additional seasons for anime that are incomplete like Story of Saiunkoku, Kekkaishi, Saint Seiya: Lost Canvas, Rurouni Kenshin revenge arc, etc.

Go on..

Tbh theirs to many options... with that kind of cash you could pay a good handfull of authors to get off there butt and start adding more chapters and get them a spot for a new anime adaption, what instantly comes to mind is.
Berserk, hunter x hunter, d gray man, black lagoon.

First, I'd go looking for some really talented, but relatively unknown artists.
Then, we get together and come up with a unique art style and a top-shelf story.
After, I'd probably go to BONES for my studio.
Ending with a (hopefully) masterpiece of a show that runs about 52 episodes.

And then we'd keep going.

I'm pretty sure those exist in the world of anime, just not as a primary focus of a work. Now, I could be totally wrong about that as there are countless titles in the world today, and, eh, you never know, right?

I'd make my own original series as well. *starts thinking* Wait a minutes I think I have something. *continues thinking*

A military science fiction/mystery version of The Game of Thrones turned anime. WAIT! I think that might exist already. *thinking* Turning the series Fringe or Once into a series. *keep thinking more* Just give me a minute. I got this.

I would make a bad ass Naruto movie series.
So much CGI, so many special effects. And like 10 movies.
I don't care if no one else watches it, it's for me.
But if people do watch it, more money for me.

If I had that amount of money, I would create an ORIGINAL anime obviously, since I wouldn't have to care about whether it flops or succeed.

I would design the characters myself, write the story myself, the storyboard myself and direct it myself. The only people I will hire are animators, voice actors and sound engineers.

I hadn't thought about it that way. I guess when I heard the question my brain automatically went for the "Produce something that will probably make money" mindset. Maybe it's because that's what the industry lends itself to to stay alive. lol

If I had opted to do an original story, I'd make it something primarily philosophical, similar to a lot of the poetry I write. It'd deal with things the nature of human thought; where it comes from, where it goes, and how much power it has over the world we live in. Everyone has the power to make their thoughts and feelings into something real, and their creations can even affect the way other humans perceive the world around them.

- We all live in the same world, but we see it from different perspectives. Is it ever really possible to understand what someone else thinks?
- What happens to our minds after we die? How much of our identity goes on living through the things we create?
- How powerful is science when it comes to changing minds? If someone doubted a scientific result (with a legitimate reason), does that actually make the hypothesis false? If they tested a hypothesis with a presumption that it was already true or already false, would their expectations change the way they see the results?
