Sadly, this often happens. Licensing issues are strange beasts, with different companies and contracts involved, and a lot of fighting between the various companies (Funimation, CR, Daisuki, etc) over who gets what, where, and when. Some countries have additional rules that can prevent certain shows or games from being brought over as well. It's a pointless mess.

Looking forward to a non-region locked future, too...

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say this or not, I hope I don't get ban for saying this.

But there is a legal streaming site in Australia called Madman, they're showing AoT at the moment. Go to silver screen -> video -> AoT.

It's 100% legal.

Not to worry - it's only illegal sites that we take down posts about. I'm glad there's a legit option for AoT down under, it's a good show!

I really hope this region lock business disappears soon. Everyone should enjoy anime anywhere and anytime.

Alas, just like many other of the "things that are wrong in the world", since it is driven by selfish money interests, realistically that's not going to happen. All anyone can do is to unrustle their Jimmies about those kinds of things, or get an ulcer. Or become rich and philanthropic and fight it.

Actually, this is why:

It was rumored when Attack on Titan was announced that Madman was negotiating hard for it, so I'm happy they ended up signing the license.

But that means that Crunchyroll can't get it unless Madman wants to sign some kind of package deal with Crunchyroll.

It would normally be down to Ozzie members to contact Madman and let them know you want them to work together with Crunchyroll.

I guess that's a plus to Blu ray. Since Australia and the UK are both region B, they'll both play on each other's players.

There's also a list of region A blu rays that are region free here.

Australia gets the short end of the stick pretty much every time.
