Trust me when I say that once you be yourself you become happier. You can ignore what everyone says or thinks about you because it is meaningless in the long run.

Rather, it might be better to say that you want to stop being yourself, and start being a better version of yourself.

+1 . *bows*

This.
Also, if you're a dick then don't be yourself.

Man if I was my self all the time, I'd be wearing some Jedi robes and have my waifu pillow all the time

I'd be pretending to be a Jedi, being immature all over the place

This guy's my idol ^^^^

When I was in grade school I was myself for the most part. Until I got to jr high and early high school is when I began to follow others. As in trends, and having concerns with being popular. I was such a tool back then.
But as I got into high school I slowly started being myself again. Liking what I liked, and not liking something solely because others did. I once again in my life, had my own opinion and wasn't afraid to show it. I grew wiser, and discovered myself. I'm a much better person I am now then I was a couple years ago. It's nice. The older you get, the wiser you get, and simply don't care about the opinions of other. You will accept criticism, grow, and ultimately move forward.

But yea, like a lot of you have said. Being yourself is better than not being yourself. Wonderful things do happen when you're true to yourself and express the real you. You know what happens that's wonderful?
Happiness.

Once you accept yourself, and express the real you,...you achive a little bit of happiness. And that's what I think life is about. Just be happy you guys. Be yourself and be happy.

It is dangerous for everyone in the world to be theirself... do you understand how much hate their is in the world?? Gay people being murdered, people tortured for practicing a religion, people being looked down upon for their beliefs (hitler, i dont like him...) so you can never be yourself becuase once you enter society your are responsible for everything you do!! society damned you from being yourself from birth unless it changes it's wicked ways... until then not everyone can be theirselves... no i don't even think in this world it would be possible for everyone to be theirselves anyway because we have murderers that murder to be thierselves (may be primal nature) and ect u get the point... so be careful being yourself as for me, i am a free person and i do what i want regardless of the consequences..

Well, I like the idea of being yourself (which is just to say - don't pretend to be something you're not just to impress others or fit in).

Don't expect that to make you happy though. Especially if you're surrounded by people who value conformism. That is, unless your true self is naturally like the group you hang out with - in which case i'd say you're amazingly lucky.

Still being fake and putting up a front just hurts in the long run - and it gives people the wrong idea about you, so it's probably never a good idea (except in certain situations where it's just polite or common courtesy).

Side note because this is an anime website and because I can

I'm always myself. The trouble is I'm so complicated that people often think I'm acting differently to them than I usually would.

For those that want to be theirself, but have a load of people that hate who you are around you. What do you do? Submit to their lifestyle or live in solitude as yourself?

What if your true self is a fraud?

What if the "false" you is more real than the "real" you?

What if you actually have no personality, and only through being a fake can you be real?

What would you do if the real you were unable to make any friends because of how boring the real you were, while the fake you is able to make plenty of friends; good & bad.

Imagine living your entire life as an empty shell, and only through creating a new personality that will blend the best with the environment you live in, are you able to thrive and be happy.

If you think about it, being a fake isn't necessarily negative.

Just look at Tsukihi Araragi, perfect example of this.

So tell me, is being a fake really as bad as you all want it to be?

I hope none of you take that "be yourself!" is an excuse to not try and change problematic issues with yourself that harm others or yourself.
