The world could always use more Touhou.

Anyways, I don't see many companies looking for funding through kickstarter. Maybe in the future things will change, but for now it's just not a decent source of revenue. I'm sure we'll see more great things coming out of kickstarter, and more successes might increase the popularity.

I honestly hope not. I'm glad this was funded, but as an avid gamer I've seen far too many kickstarters go up for games daily if not hourly and honestly, it's getting a bit ridiculous now if you ask me.

If they plan on making a 3rd episode of this, I'd much rather they take this kickstarter campaign, take it to a publisher and say, "Look, people love this and want more. Fund us." rather than doing a kickstarter for every episode.

Actually that would be an interesting prospect. Use kickstarter to make a 30 minute pilot of a series that isn't episode 1 (kind of like how the first chapter of Naruto and Nisekoi were one shots that were then made into series) then take that success to show a publisher it would be worth their time and money to fund a whole series.

It's not like LWA was the first anime project to get funded through Kickstarter. As I recall, "Kickheart" was also a great success.

There was an interview with the People at TRIGGER over it. They seemed a little blow away by the success of it but even they aren't sure it's something that could be used on a regular basis for funding shows.

The cost of making LWA2 is actually quite a bit higher than the 600K they raised, they were just looking for a little bit extra so they could do a better job of it and maybe flesh it out a bit more, So I don't think Kickstarter could fund a project entirely on it's own

However it does give the studio a good sense of how well received the story is world wide and it's certainly something they can show investors for future projects. Could certainly show it to a production committee and say "look how many people want this, how about giving us funds for a 26 episode season"

If Trigger did this again for Panty and Stocking to get a real ending, I would throw so much money at it.

I would use my tuition money for a new K-ON! anime.
