Humanity as a philosophical institution is an innate characteristic which cannot be taken away or surrendered, and it is bestowed upon each and every being belonging to the human race no matter the manner of their birth or the extent of their bodily modification.

Personally, I don't agree when someone says,"a person isn't human when they don't have emotions".It's pretty vague and doesn't even cover all the exceptions to the phrase itself. What if the person is a vegetable;impossible of showing any types of feelings or emotion;does that mean they are less than human? What about the people who got in an accident, and are now in a vegetative state? Is their status of being human revoked? If a person was born with ASPD (antisocial personality disorder) and are incapable of feeling and reciprocating emotions, are they too less than human?

When we die and are no more.

As for a lack of emotionality, you mistake human for humanity. A human could lose their humanity and will remain human until he or she dies. Another subject for another time.

People with ASPD do have emotions. AFAIK it may be limited or stunted in some way, but otherwise such people including psychopaths and sociopaths have emotions.

I think that being able to sense one another. Sight, smell touch.

Being able to distinguish one person from another person. Not just by the way they look. But acknowledging other people's identities.

Once we lose an identity. When we transcend beyond the need for friendly competition.

When individuals lose them selves in a greater cause.

We will be something else entirely.

You can sit here and read through pages of what different people consider human, or you can realize that human is just a word and it means whatever you want it to mean.

My two cents: When we stop desiring to mate with humans.
