6 points of damage isn't what i call fun, not sure if most use damage recovery in this particular card game. Yu gi oh on the other had I think explores a lot more card potential.

I have the following decks:

uria deck

all trap cards deck (fuck you heavy storm, harpies feather duster)

hamon deck

dragon deck

2 types of spellcaster deck (offensive and defensive)

exodia deck

I also play magic and the 20 life is pretty good considering what decks are paired against each other.

all in all I do believe the series is the successor to the anime, however the card game is a bit lacking imo

Never seen Cardfight!! Vanguard, but i really like Yugioh and occasionally would whip out my DS and play my old Duel Masters game. I felt like it had a great number of possibilities and its great how well some cards work with each other. Also, the 8000 LP is a great value to start with.

My critique on Yu-Gi-Oh on its current metagame:

Starting fresh on a new game like Vanguard would be risky for someone who would rather spend the money elsewhere. Give me a few good reasons to start playing another TCG and I would definitely consider it.

Edit: To comment on the Cardfight! Vanguard anime itself - I have never heard of there being an anime counterpart prior to my discovery of the TCG. I suppose I could watch the anime and if I like it, then I could look into the TCG.

Regarding the Card Game:
Personally speaking, I rather enjoy Cardfight!! Vanguard and play the TCG consistently, having recently stopped playing Yu-Gi-Oh! (can't stand the state the game is in and the meta). I currently play 3 Vanguard decks; Dragonic Overlord the End, Gold Paladins (Duke/Chromejailer build) and Dark Irregulars. I don't feel like the 6 damage limit restricts the game, as throughout the past year I've played it, I've seen the game evolve in many ways and still have a lot of possibility, with some games even lasting in excess of 20-30 minutes.

Regarding the Anime:
I find the anime to be rather enjoyable. I really liked Season 1 of the series because it was something that I believe most card players could relate to; just going to card shops with friends, playing in tournaments, regionals, nationals, and having very little to do with magic, but still having magic exist in a rather small way. It was a pleasant change of pace from the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime which consistently uses magic and other otherworldly concepts. Another thing I enjoyed about Season 1 was how unpredictable it is. *MINOR SPOILER AHEAD* In the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime, the main character ALWAYS has some form of highly advanced plot armor, meaning he NEVER LOSES! In the Vanguard anime, a lot of the games where you think victory is guaranteed because of how important the match is, the main character(s) can and will actually lose. While the main characters still have some form of plot armor, it's not as thick as the plot armor from Yu-Gi-Oh!. *MINOR SPOILER END* As for Seasons 2 and 3, although I still watch and enjoy them, I feel they do not capture the same essence that Season 1 had, almost discarding its key concepts completely. While the story still contains stuff like tournaments, the matches have become more predictable and the plot focuses greatly more on magic and otherworldly concepts.

In my own opinion, I find the Vanguard anime to be more enjoyable than Yu-Gi-Oh!, but I'm sure others will beg to differ. Obviously, there is no objectively better series because opinions differ and I feel each series has the same production values. As for the anime Duel Masters (along with other TCG-based series), I have no opinion on it, mostly because I have never watched it.

Kind of a coincidence but I just started watching the series today and feels a bit different than Yugioh and seems to have a lot of rules. Not too shabby though but it does have quite the high level Yugioh vibes.

Oh and the main girl (Misaki) has some really good moves so far unlike the original Yugioh series' Tea.

Somewhat offtopic: I quit collecting Yuigoh Cards about 7 years ago lol

Haha i actually noticed you started it and thought to myself, "wow your gonna be in for the long run". In the future i should definitely give it a try though.

Also, i have a bit of a dark past where Yugioh is concerned. Me, my brother, and my best friend in elementary school used to go around taking cards from people by either sneaking in their bags when they weren't looking or winning them off the other kids. We used to call ourselves the "rare hunters" too. Funny how shows can have that effect on you lol. But eventually i stopped collecting and just stuck to playing the videogames.

Out of all the long-runners of recent years, Cardfight Vanguard is probably at the bottom of my priority list lol, though I do enjoy playing MTG (Izzet token deck~).

Is it really worth checking out? It does have an impressive amount of episodes so it must be good enough, but still...

Have you ever watched the original Yu-Gi-Oh shows? They are just awful and slowly get better over time. Cardfight is more straight forward and require a much higher skill and knowledge of your cards. I would love for a video game to come out but it would need to become a little more popular. To those who haven't checked it out you should give it a go I tried it because learning a new game is always fun for me.
