I am just wondering is it is mostly younger fans at cons are their older folks their to?

On the convention of which I am one of the organizers of the majority of visitors is indeed the younger people (18-23), but overall we recieve people from all age catagories.
(Even several people in their 60's and 70's, and no, not all of them are parents and/or grandparents coming along with their family but people with genuine interest in anime and Japanese pop culture.)

The same goes for other Dutch conventions by the way, as well as several other foreign conventions I have been to.

You'll mostly see people in the teens and 20s going, but don't let that stop you from going. There are plenty of older people who go as well, and there's still plenty for you to see. And there could be some pretty awesome cosplay options for the older crowd too.

Check out these awesome Howl's Moving Castle cosplayers I met at Fanime!

The anime cons I have been too I mostly seen teenagers and 20 somethings, you are still welcomed with open arms no matter what age. In fact I would love to see people more around my age *nod*. If you want to know some of the more older con goers, volunteer or get to know the staff (most of the more mature / older congoers can be found there).

However, as long as you are not the creepy old person hitting on something half your age you will be just fine. Try and find cons that have 18+ or 21+ panels because you feel less like the old person wanting to tell kids to get off the lawn.

While Sci-fi conventions tend to have a larger 50+ contingent than the anime cons do consider the fact that A-kon(IIRC the first major "anime" con in 88 or 89) is going to be 25 next year where the straight Sci-Fi convention concept had about a 49/50 year head start(New York World Con 1939) so it stands to reason those of us with a bit of gray are going to be outnumbered but as I like to jokingly remind some of the younger otaku it will happen to them too.
Age appropriate or masked cosplay helps show you're not just a creep and actually fan and it doesn't need to be anime themed as I saw plenty of non anime at AWA this last weekend.
If any of you caught the AWA live stream I was NCIS Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs and Top Gear's The Stig.

Its a mixture. I've even seen cosplay families, which is awesome. They always seem to be bleach characters lol

We did an Ouran High School Host Club family cosplay :). It was a lot of fun and I can't wait to do it again! (but something else next time. I had put together a Black Butler cosplay for our family a couple years ago but we weren't able to use it )

I felt kind of out of place being older but I didn't let it bother me. I am naturally shy but I know next time we go, I am just going to let go and have a blast!

No age is to old.

Anyone thinking that way is mentally too young to be around such events then.

No age is too old I started to go to Kumoricon since 2007 and loved it I am 53. No if you like me feel like the old odd person out , do something about it. Since 2008 I been hosting the Otaku over 25 panel at Kumoricon. I encourage you older fans to start older fan panels at other cons.

I've only been to one con thus far and was worried I'd really stick out but what I quickly learned is what matters most is your enthusiasm for the genre. Age, race, religion, these all seemed to melt away as I met new people and we talked about anime from today back to the classics.

For anime cons its generally 60% ages 10 to mid 20s. Whatever age you are either 13 or 63 there's always something fun too do. anime screenings, movie panels, different aged meet and greets, secret parties, video game tournaments, etc We all share the same interests and exchange the most interesting conversations regardless of age.

I don't think there should be an age limit to GO to a Convention.
But to Cosplay maybe yes.

You might be to old for a con if: in your will you request to have your ashes carried through the con, your reanimated corpse in a zombie like state is lurking in the con, or if the pure awesomeness of a con will kill you. there are ancient football fans so i think we are good till death.

DragonCon is mostly people between 25-40 and AWA is mainly 13-25. I think it just depends on which Con you go to. Anime specific cons generally have younger people.

It can also depend on what con you go to. Out of the ones I go to, MTAC in Nashville is pretty varied in age groups with a lot of family cosplayers that go. Anime Central on the other hand is a lot of teens and twenty somethings but there are still a lot of older people who go. Otakon is a lot like MTAC and tends to be pretty varied. Finally, Animazement is one of the few I've been to that seems to be a lot more people between 25 - 40 going. Still a lot of teen - 20-somethings but as long as you go without worrying about age so much and just focus on having fun, I really don't think any age is too old to go.
