Been attending Otakon since 2001. Overall it was another good year for Otakon in the record book for me. I especially liked the Otamuseum which had display cases and information boards chronicling the growth of Otakon from 1994 to the present. Looking back at the badge choices from previous years made me feel all nostalgic. They should've shown the program guides from the earlier years at the BCC. I peeked back once at an old pocket guide map I still have and it was hilarious when compared to how big Otakon is now.

Sadly though one of my favorite events, the AMV contest seemed pretty lack luster this year, nothing terribly memorable.

The return of Mystery Anime Theater 3000 made up for it however.

Oreimo OVA premiere was PACKED!! And if anyone from con-ops is reading this, don't let two lines start forming before the event and then suddenly declare that ONE of them is the actual line, the mad rush to that side could've killed someone! Once inside unfortunately the screen again was too low so everyone's heads were blocking the subtitles. Thank goodness I put in that time self studying Japanese as I was able to follow the story with just the audio and the top half of the screen! But being with thousands of people and hearing the reactions was priceless. Won't comment on the show though, that's a thread unto it's own.

Sword Art Online dub screening also packed more than I personally expected. And a tip for those people lining up to ask questions at the Q&A, do some research on first, WHO you're asking a question, and then what you're actually asking. Everyone knew the guests where the animation directors and character designers, but so many people asked the same question. "Where did you get the inspiration for the character designs?" I face-palmed so many times and felt so bad for the Japanese guests. Uhh....it was a light novel and the characters were already designed by an artist that Reki Kawahara knew...

As an older anime fan it's also interesting to watch the shifts in cosplay through the years. Hands down big ones this year were Sword Art Online and Attack on Titan. I'm sure there must've been a bigger photo shoot but the one I saw at the Aniplex booth in the dealer's room was hilarious when they called forward all the Kirito X Asuna copslayers!

In any case, will be looking forward to next year! I may not have the same wide-eyed enthusiasm I had as a newbie anime fan back in my younger years, but there's something about being a part of all that energy and fandom that keeps me coming back. Unless of course the lines just become so unmanageable that I may wait until it moves to DC!

Good stuff...First Otakon for me, and I must say, besides all the lines, it was well worth it. Huge array of famous guests and all the people were awesome. Would love to go next year!

I love these con reports, but they should really be added to the Otakon 2013 thread in the Conventions & Meetups forum. Please feel free to copy and paste your posts above into the thread linked to below, as this one is now locked and closed.
