The plot seems to be too generic for even for a super robot genre, the artstyle is dated but forgivable since it is their first attempt,

TBH, I'm not hype up with this just because some Middle-Easterners created a Japanese-style cartoon.

Attack on Titan's plot: giant monsters attack a village and a boy vows revenge against them.

That's generic to a fault, but AoT is one of the best shows of the past decade, hands down. Thing is, the plot doesn't actually matter much, it's how it's done, and the quality of the characters that make entertainment good.

A well written plot creates a sequence or pattern of events that is well defined and has a definite direction. It also gives the characters drive, purpose and growth on what they pursue.

To say that plot doesn't have much impact to the story also means that the characters doesn't have much room to grow and developed.

It's the other way around. The characters drive the plot. It's not what happens, it's who it happens to and how they react that is important. The plot is absolutely nothing without good characters because they are the heart and soul of a story.

Replace Holo from Spice and Wolf and everything falls apart.

Make Kyon from Haruhi Suzumiya into a different person who makes different decisions and the whole series changes drastically.

A good story with good characters can continue infinitely and still be entertaining. A good plot will eventually end, because like you said, it's got a definitive direction. Basing things off a plot is a huge limitation, because then your characters are obedient instead of being who they really are.

First of all Plot is one of the core element of story making, it is not something to be taken lightly . Plot is a sequence of events or pattern of events that make up the story.

Sometimes, the situation forces the characters to act and sometimes the characters created the situation via cause and effect which they will get involved one way or the other. In any case, it is not entirely true that the character drives the plot.

Second, Plot is just as important in story telling as the characters as neither can exist without each other.

Third, unless something happen to the character from past event(s), the character will not deviate from their normal behavior. In other words, characters are not obedient useless the story demand it to.

And forth, The story plot ends only when the story ends. Remember that plot is a series of events or pattern of events that make up the story.

I will be interested to see how this plays out.

As I have seen the Hamas version of Mickey Mouse and the message it sends, I will reserve judgement.

I'm looking forward to it. If anything, it looks like the show will be lively, and it's eye-catching. It reminds me a bit of Gurren Lagann.

I don't think that it's anime, but I think it's cool that they're making something like that.

I don't like mecha with only rare exceptions like Gurren Lagann and Gargantia, and I only tend to watch things that are in English or Japanese and really don't like watching stuff in Arabic so I probably won't be tuning in. But if we get an English dub at some point, maybe if it turns out good.

Neither of you are entirely wrong but I don't think disputing the value of a good plot was his initial point anyways (from a couple posts back). A good show needs both good characters and a good plot. What makes a good plot and what makes a good character are going to depend largely on who you're asking, but I think generally speaking those two things are universally true.

However the initial point was disputing whether or not a plot has to be original to be good, and I think historically that's not been the case. The concept of the plot is far, far less important then the execution of said plot. The reality of story telling is that very few stories are original, and authors/artists steal from their predecessors frequently. What makes or breaks the individual stories is how they execute the various tropes and cliches present in their story.

Of course, that also means an original story can be bad if the plot and characters are bad. This is all oversimplifying what actually goes into story telling and largely ignoring the very subjective nature of stories, but again, generally speaking I think it's true.

Nice. Obviously influenced by Go Nagai. First anime I ever watched was Grendizer dubbed in arabic.

They were either going to start with a mecha anime, or a soccer one. Captain Tsubasa (known as Captain Majed in the middle east) was huge.
