yea, if high school in Canada is anything like the U.S., it's a crappy waste of time really... I slept through it and failed over 1/2 my classes from not turning stuff in, though I took exams to obtain credit after I failed. You don't even really have to get good grades to get into a good college...just go to a crappy junior college or whatnot for a year or two for the basic courses, and if you get decent grades, its generally easy to transfer to a decent university; Though standardized tests tend to be important, like the SAT, or a Canadian equivalent :P

*waves the big "Asian Flag"* Unlike you, -_-; *sad*, i'd get killed by my mother if i do horrible in high school...*which i /am/ doing horrible* i'm not allowed to fail any of my classes -_-; so i'm gettgin at least a 50% in all of them =) and start to work hard during grade 10 slowly, so i don't have to go crazy in grade 11/12.

the fail % in the U.S. is below 70%(D) ;O
its 60% (D) in college, though you won't get credit for the course if it pertains to your major unless you get a 70% (C)

I don't care what you pick as a career...just don't mess up my job market. Hahaha

Half the people in college don't know what they want to do, so start with a Pyschology/Literature/Art/History Major. You get to buy time with those. High school is just time invented in the Industrial Revolution Age to keep cheap labour out of the job market, it works well...so just graduate you damn whippersnappers. Summer jobs at fastfood are unavoidable <_<

Gotta make sure you get skills in a useful career you like or else you will be back in some lameass school institution before you know it.

I was gonna work on computer networking(Information Science and Technology AND SOOOO much easier than Computer Engineering) but realized, after WW3 computers might not be around. That...and I didn't do half my coursework and flunked out 2nd semester of college...good thing I blew 24 grand in taxpayers' money

Gonna work on being an Electrician. The man who can end the Dark Ages to come will be able to mold the future in his image.

"do you think students at an early level such as high school should be asked to decide on their careers or a major they like to approach?"

Yar. I've always known what I was going be doing for my main income (farming/buying farm off family so I will retire by renting the land out (or selling to a younger family member)).

But I know a few people that never put much thought into it. Now they work a minimal wage job at some demeaning place. (Note* they're not 16-20 they are 21+) Imo when your 21+ you should have a job with benefits (health insurance/ possible retirement plan / ect).

Yeah they should at least try to decide on what they want to do.. or else they're just gonna end up doing nothing for a long, long, long time

well i guess it would be better to think about it, but not be pressurized, people tend to freak and choose the wrong paths if they are. Still we should enjoy our youth. Because if worry 2 much youd be wasting time. youth is the time for fun, so just live in it. but u'd have 2 think sometimes, what'd happen 5 years from now, did i succeed?, am i contented wid my job,? can i be mature enough to raise kids?, things like dat..at least you have a view of ur life already

But in choosing careers, u have 2 know what you are good at. so you would be able to know what career fits best. If you are passionate about something, Go for it! do ur best, if u really know whats going to be the best there out for you u don't need to worry. U just really have to think hard, your strengths and weaknesses, study them, so it would be easy for you in college, you regret less things.

like me, i love science, i'm curious about the world and stuff, i can be hardworking enough and i like 2 help people.
so i think i'd be better off as a doctor. plan to study neurology. but i dont think about it always. i'm stilla high school sophomore and lovin it..

just pray. and love what you are doing, seek advice as well ..=)

im gonna become a manga/anime artist in japan. i took drawing since 4. but recently when i come to think of it.. i realize there are quite a number of difficulties. after putting in lot of thoughts.. i still couldnt think of a way to help these problems.. such as. though i know japanese.. but am not born in japan.. and i dont have the relationship with other ppl .. and the culture like real japanese. i think it would be hard to just go to japan and right the way look for an artist job. it would be nice if someone help me out a lil. on things like what should i do in order to fit into a career live in japan...

after all the thinking.. i come to think that every anime/manga artist we known of .. are definitely very successful in there career. outwise they wouldnt be able to produce. videos or books about their work.. and i become more appreciative at all the art works

i think high school's too early... if given a choice, i would have stopped and worked for a while after high school.. to see what i really wanted to do in life... i was like filling up college application forms without knowing what i really wanted. i had an idea but i wasn't 100% sure i wanted to be what i am now. i just went with what i wanted at that moment. and i also didn't know how my life's gonna be after college.

but now i have no regrets. it was well worth it.
