The most unique had to be "Burn 'em" - basically tag, but when you got caught, you had to hold your arm against the tires on the playground for a duration proportional to the time required to catch you. Naturally, this was played during the summer...
We also once played ice soccer. As the name might imply, it was played on a field of ice...

Moving to more common pastimes, we played normal tag, hide and seek, whiffleball and kickball.
In gym we sometimes did Simon says, capture the flag, dodge ball and jumpropes, so far as kid games go.
In soccer camp, we did a variant of British bulldogs where each player had a ball they had to keep the bulldogs from getting.
I'm sure I played duck duck goose and hopscotch at some point, and swings were fun though I guess that doesn't count as a game.
For some reason the game red rover is familiar to me, though I can't recall if I actually played it; probably our teacher used that name but we played it differently. Edit: Odds are I confused that with red light, green light somehow.
Also, marbles was fun too, until the advent of the Nintendo... at which point Marble Madness instilled in me a deep rooted fear of all things marblish... the horror!

Handball/wallball ALL THE TIME!

I loved that sport. As a kid, I could play it with friends for literally hours at a time. I think my longest time playing was something like 4 hours. In the afternoon. On a sunny day. Seriously, I don't know how we had so much energy. And we played whenever possible, at school and out.

I played it with some old friends from elementary school again last year and the longest we lasted was half an hour. It's a really intense workout and I'm sure it toughens your arms and hands.

For those who don't know this, here are the basic rules:
-1 rubber kickball (bouncy, soft type), 1 wall about 8 feet high and 15 feet wide (varies)
-2-4 players (any more usually gets messy)
-Hit the ball once and only during your turn
-Ball must touch the ground ONCE and only once before hitting the wall
-The following player may choose to hit the ball before it bounces or after it bounces ONLY ONCE
-The person serving cannot hit the ball too softly (there is usually a line about 3 feet from the wall, and that is the minimum serve distance)

If the ball misses the wall, hits the wall without first bouncing once, bounces more than once, or is hit so that it goes out of the court, it is considered an OUT and the appropriate person serves. Hitting another player with the ball usually results in the hitter losing a life or the struck player losing a life, depending on rules set. Doing a bad serves results in loss of one life for the server (or the team, if it's a team match).

LOTS of variations on rules, and some rules we created ourselves. There was a game type called Closest that has no set order and involved needing the person closest to the landing ball to hit it (as long as the person isn't the one who hit it immediately before) but this was chaotic since people would argue about who was actually closer, and some would run to the ball to become closest and 'steal' turns. There is also Team Closest, which pits 2 teams of 2 or more players against each other but no set order of striking the ball other than that the closest opposing player must return the hit.

I played all the normal games a kid would, but I'd also play video games at home and go to school and pretend I was in them. I remember when The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind came out and I started a real thieves guild in school and actually pickpocketed people, I got pretty good at it.

Lol yeah, I pickpocketed people whenever we had to get into single file lines, and whenever I walked behind them, I remember this kid had the most recent Pokemon guide out at the time, idk if it was gold or crystal, hell it might've even been a pokemon card guide, all I knew is I wanted it, so when we were walking back to class, I picked it out of his pocket and stuck it in my bag, I also played Splinter Cell in the playground and Legacy of Kain. Good times, was also a ladies man. Go figure.
