Going to a different country for the first time.

So I'm planning my first trip overseas and I'm going by myself. I've never flown before and I am a lot exited and a little scared. Can you tell about your first experiences with traveling to foreign country's and give some advice and tips on what to take and what not to take along? Like I want to bring Root Beer to someone who doesn't know what it is and wants to try it. Is it safe to travel with carbonated beverages??? That would suck if it exploded in my bag or something...

Depends on where it is you're going. Make sure to ask your GP whether you need vaccinations or not. Some countries require vaccinations, like if you go to a country with high rates of malaria, you should get vaccinated against that.

Um... get health insurance, it's about $100.

I don't know what it's like in USA, but in Australia, they have this new rule: You're not allowed to take any liquid with you for hand luggage. You have to leave any liquid bottles inside the big luggage.

If you take like shampoo or hair gel on the hand luggage, customs will throw them in the bin and give you a nasty stare.

I had this happened to me once, the woman was like, "Sir, you need to throw that in the bin NOW"... she was treating me like I was taking the hair gel to kill people...

I went spain twice when I was younger but to me I felt completely normal apart from the fact that communicating was difficult

Please ask over in The General Help/Advice Thread, as creating new personal/help threads is not allowed.

There are almost certainly a number of other places on the internet that provide tips and advice or have forums just for travel-related inquiries. Some of what you need to know will depend on the country where you are going to.

Oh, one other place to look is in our Tourism/International/Culture forum: /forumcategory-391038/tourism-international-culture
